A Comparison Of The Basc And Cbcl With At-Risk Preschoolers, Sara Murphy

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Behavior rating scales, such as the Behavior Assessment System for Children ([BASC] Reynolds & Kamphaus, 1998) and the Child Behavior Checklist ([CBCL] Achenbach & Rescorla, 2000), are often used to assess social and emotional behavior problems. Although a substantial amount of research exists on the previous version of the BASC/6-18 and CBCL/4-18, little research exists on the latest preschool versions of the BASC/2.5-5 and CBCL/1.5-5. The current study examined the overall consistency between the revised BASC and CBCL preschool versions. A sample of 33 parents of preschool-aged children considered "at-risk" participated in this study by completing both the BASC and …

Reliability And Validity Of The Dallas Threat Of Violence Risk Assessment, Russell B. Van Dyke

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Several high-profile, multiple-victim school shootings between 1996 and 1999 dramatically shook the public's perception of the safety of our schools. In response to public concern, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) developed a district-wide policy for responding to threats of violence and implemented the Dallas Threat of Violence Risk Assessment (DTVRA). The DTVRA is designed to help school personnel assess the likelihood of a student following through with a threat and to provide guidance for appropriate interventions for students who threaten violence. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the inter-rater reliability and construct-related validity of the DTVRA. Ratings …

Understanding The Job Of A School Principal A Study Of Current Principal Practices In Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, And Wisconsin, Michelle A. Thompson

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The findings within recent research conducted by Public Agenda, the National Association of Secondary School P1incipals, and the National Association of Elementary School Principals indicated a necessity for restructuring the role of the principal and rethinking principal preparation and state licensure requirements. These studies, however, do not reveal what principals do on a daily basis. Without a clear understanding of what principals do each day, and the time devoted to each task, these undertakings would be without merit. To restructure the principalship without clearly defining the day-to-day practices of our elementary, middle, and high school principals would not result in …

Semantic Web Services For N-Glycosylation Process, Satya S. Sahoo, Amit P. Sheth, William S. York, John A. Miller

Kno.e.sis Publications

Glycomics is one of the many research efforts currently underway in the biosciences domain, which is characterized by high throughput data generated at multiple experimental stages. For example, analysis of N-glycosylation encompasses stages from cell-culture to peptide identification and quantification. Research groups across the world use diverse cell cultures, separation and spectroscopic techniques, and data identification, correlation and integration methodologies. Thus, data generated at different phases of the process by multiple groups are both structurally and functionally heterogeneous.

Victimization During The Middle School Years: Exploring The Relationship Between Emotion Regulation And Emotional/Behavioral Outcomes, Jason E. Harlacher

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The present thesis examined emotion regulation differences among victims and non victims of bullying and its role as a mediator in the link between victimization and internalizing or externalizing outcomes. Participants from Grades 6 to 8 (n = 240) completed measures that assessed level of victimization, emotions felt relative to emotions expressed during bullying situations, and internalizing and externalizing symptoms. Weak victim-related differences revealed that boy victims reported feeling more shame and expressing more fear than nonvictims, whereas girl victims reported expressing more shame and feeling and expressing more anger and sadness. A new measure of emotional regulation did …

Working Memory Capacity, Temporal Discounting, And Exercise Rates, Kathleen Lambourne May 2005

Working Memory Capacity, Temporal Discounting, And Exercise Rates, Kathleen Lambourne

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

During decision-making, an individual must weigh the value of the outcomes involved while also considering the amount of time until the outcomes will occur. Discounting occurs when a smaller, immediately available reward is chosen over a larger, more delayed reward. Discounting rates are likely related to working memory capacity, because working memory stores and processes the value of the outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between working memory, temporal discounting, and the decision to engage in physical activity.

The results showed that working memory capacity was related to the physical activity rates. Discounting rates from …

The Soul Of Oscar Wilde Under Victorianism: A Psychological Biography, Carol Schnitzer

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Oscar Wilde has fascinated generations of scholars and biographers for reasons having as much to do with the man as well as his work. In particular, his conflict with Victorian society, which engendered the drama that destroyed his career and eventually his life, has captured their imaginations and led to all kinds of speculations about why when the crunch came Wilde acted in a way so contrary to his own self-interest. His decision to sue the Marquess of Queenberry for libel and later to stand trial when the ensuing revelations about his private life resulted in his arrest on charges …

Job Satisfaction Among United States Air Force Security Forces Personnel Post-1997 Career Field Merger, James Harrison Popphan

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research was conducted to determine factors contributing to job satisfaction among US Air Force Security Forces personnel. Previous research conducted prior to major structural changes within the career field in 1997 and increased operations tempo due to the Global War on Terror was of questionable current pertinence. Job satisfaction has been shown to directly affect retention and performance. Retention is extremely important within the career field due to a personnel shortage of 8,000 troops. The current research closely followed the research design used by Michael Reiner to assess job satisfaction in the career field in 1997, and compares current findings …

Overcoming Participation Constraints, Hanming Fang, Peter Norman May 2005

Overcoming Participation Constraints, Hanming Fang, Peter Norman

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

In incomplete information environments with transferable utility, efficient outcomes are generally implementable unless interim or ex post participation constraints are imposed on the problem. In this paper we show that linking a sufficiently large number of independent but possibly unrelated social decisions, a slightly perturbed Groves mechanism can implement an efficient outcome with probability arbitrarily close to one, while respecting all participation, incentive and balanced budget constraints.

This paper shows that linking a sufficiently large number of independent but unrelated social decisions can achieve approximate efficiency. We provide regularity conditions under which a Groves mechanism amended with a veto game implements an efficient outcome with probability arbitrarily close to one, and satisfies interim participation, incentive and resource constraints.

Intergenerational Justice And Sustainability Under The Leximin Ethic, John E. Roemer May 2005

Intergenerational Justice And Sustainability Under The Leximin Ethic, John E. Roemer

Cowles Foundation Discussion Papers

We model an intergenerational society, with a representative agent at each date, who must deplete a renewable resource, from which he derives utility, to produce consumption goods. We adopt the intergenerational lexicographic minimum as the social welfare function. Initially, technological progress is assumed to exist exogenously. We study the technological requirements for the leximin solution to support non-decreasing welfare over time, and a non-decreasing level of the natural resource. Three utility functions are studied. With a CES utility function, possessing less substitutability than the Cobb-Douglas, the leximin solution involves increasing utilities over time and an increasing size of the natural …
