Perceptions Of Connective Leadership And Work Outcomes: The Role Of Gender And Group Identification, Melisa Appleby

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

This study examines connective leadership, a theory of leadership largely ignored in research, in relation to work outcomes and other leadership styles. The purpose of this study was to increase the understanding of how connective leadership affects work outcomes. Two hundred forty-four undergraduate and graduate students (32% male and 68% female) from nursing, business, and psychology classes participated in the study. Participants completed measures of leadership perceptions, group identification, and work outcomes. Correlations, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and regression analyses were conducted to test the hypotheses. The results indicated that women were more often perceived to be connective leaders than …

Consumer Perception And Food Packaging, Dan Agnew, Patti Nibert, Shawna Wells May 2005

Consumer Perception And Food Packaging, Dan Agnew, Patti Nibert, Shawna Wells

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

Color in food packaging may influence consumer perception of various factors of health of the food product. If lighter colored food packages are seen as healthy, people who are concerned about health will purchase these products. In this study, fifty participants were asked to answer questions about food products based on the packaging color. There were four trials of products, all of which contained three packages that were colored red, green, or light blue. Ultimately, products that were lighter in color, i.e. light blue, were indicated as being the healthier products

Does Love Make You Smarter?, Annalee M. Hastie, Theodore J. Vogt

Undergraduate Psychology Research Methods Journal

Little research has been done that examines the correlation between the length of a romantic relationship and academic success. In the present study, a questionnaire addressing this issue was administered to 40 college students at Lindenwood University. Analysis of the questionnaire revealed no correlation between the length of a romantic relationship and participants’ actual GPAs. However, a moderately strong correlation between participants’ self-reported GPAs was found. This study implies that the length of one’s romantic relationship may be particularly related to perceived academic success.

This paper provides a brief review of childhood and adolescent depressive disorders and the importance of treating such symptoms within a school setting. The purpose of this paper was to examine published studies that were conducted in schools and were designed to treat symptoms of depression in children and adolescents. Active treatments utilized in this review were shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of depression. Most active treatment conditions involved intervention components that are commonly used in conjunction with typical cognitive-behavioral therapies . Further research is needed to determine the effectiveness of specific programs and program components. Implications of …

Relations Between Job Analysis Questionnaire Responses And Incumbent Characteristics, Ronnie Meredith May 2005

Relations Between Job Analysis Questionnaire Responses And Incumbent Characteristics, Ronnie Meredith

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

A properly conducted job analysis can aid in the development of selection tests, performance appraisals, job evaluations, compensation systems, and training programs. Federal court decisions, employment law, and professional practice emphasize the importance of collecting job analysis information from a representative sample of incumbents. Unfortunately, research has been scarce and inconclusive in determining whether rater race and tenure is associated with job analysis task ratings. In this study a job analysis questionnaire was developed and administered to incumbents. Race based rating differences were found in only three of the 16 analyses. Associations between rater tenure and dimension scores were also …

A Comparison Of The Basc And The Cbcl With Referred Preschoolers, Kristina Sidebottom May 2005

A Comparison Of The Basc And The Cbcl With Referred Preschoolers, Kristina Sidebottom

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Behavior rating scales, such as the Behavior Assessment System for Children ([BASC] Reynolds & Kamphaus, 1998) and the Child Behavior Checklist ([CBCL] Achenbach & Rescorla, 2000), are often used to assess social and emotional behavior problems. Although a substantial amount of research exists on the previous version of the BASC/6-18 and CBCL/4-18, little research exists on the latest preschool versions of the BASC/2.5-5 and CBCL/1.5-5. The current study examined the overall consistency between the latest BASC and CBCL preschool versions. A sample of 50 parents of preschool-aged children referred for a developmental evaluation participated in this study by completing both …

A Meta-Analysis Of Test-Retest Reliability Studies, Bryan Cromwell May 2005

A Meta-Analysis Of Test-Retest Reliability Studies, Bryan Cromwell

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The effect of intertest interval on test-retest reliability has received little attention in the research literature. In addition, no information has been gathered regarding the intertest intervals currently being used in test-retest reliability studies. This meta-analysis consists of 172 test-retest reliability studies. We hypothesized that the length of the intertest interval would be negatively associated with the test-retest reliability coefficient. The results of the study show that a median intertest interval of 14 days is typically usedin test-retest reliability studies. Data are also provided on typical intertest intervals and test-retest reliabilities categorized by the type of test and the type …

The Effect Of Gender, Victim Job Performance, And Victim Employment Status On Individual And Jury Perceptions Of Sexual Harassment, Marcie Krastman May 2005

The Effect Of Gender, Victim Job Performance, And Victim Employment Status On Individual And Jury Perceptions Of Sexual Harassment, Marcie Krastman

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The current study investigated the impact of gender, victim job performance, and victim employment status on individual juror and jury perceptions of sexual harassment. Gender, victim job performance, and victim employment are all extralegal factors that were found to influence individual jurors' perceptions of sexual harassment. The present study revealed individual female jurors were more likely than male jurors to find sexual harassment. Although gender did not have a significant effect in jury perceptions of sexual harassment, further analysis revealed females were more likely than males to change their decision on sexual harassment in a jury. Victim job performance and …

Should Critical Management Studies And Organization Development Collaborate? Invitation To A Contemplation, Maxim Voronov May 2005

Should Critical Management Studies And Organization Development Collaborate? Invitation To A Contemplation, Maxim Voronov

Organization Management Journal

In this article, the author argues that despite important differences between Critical Management Studies (CMS) and Organization Development (OD), there is enough common ground to make a dialogue worthwhile for both fields and for management practice. The author outlines some major "objectives" of each field, noting some important but frequently overlooked similarities and complementarities between them. Power and empowerment are offered as examples of focal topics around which the two disciplines could have a productive discussion, suggesting that such an exchange would help CMS’ important insights about power to have more of an impact on organizational practice while enhancing OD's …

The Cyprus Problem And Greek Cypriot Preferences For A Solution After Their “No” To The Annan Plan, Craig Webster May 2005

The Cyprus Problem And Greek Cypriot Preferences For A Solution After Their “No” To The Annan Plan, Craig Webster

Peace and Conflict Studies

The Greek Cypriots made a clear choice to reject the Annan Plan for their country in a referendum in April 2004. The Annan Plan offered a dichotomous choice to the electorate to accept or reject a federal solution to reunite Cyprus. In this paper, the author investigates the Greek Cypriot population’s preferences for a solution to the Cyprus Problem by performing multivariate analyses of data obtained from one thousand Greek Cypriots following the April 2004 referendum. The analyses find that preferences for solutions are a function of age and attitudes towards the ability of the two communities to interact successfully. …

Number Comprehension By A Grey Parrot (Psittacus Erithacus), Including A Zero-Like Concept, Irene M. Pepperberg, Jesse D. Gordon May 2005

Number Comprehension By A Grey Parrot (Psittacus Erithacus), Including A Zero-Like Concept, Irene M. Pepperberg, Jesse D. Gordon

Sentience Collection

A Grey parrot (Psittacus erithacus) that was able to quantify 6 item sets (including subsets of heterogeneous groups, e.g., blue blocks within groupings of blue and green blocks and balls) using English labels (I. M. Pepperberg, 1994a) was tested on comprehension of these labels, which is crucial for numerical competence (K. C. Fuson, 1988). He was, without training, asked “What color/object [number]?” for collections of various simultaneously presented quantities (e.g., subsets of 4, 5, and 6 blocks of 3 different colors; subsets of 2, 4, and 6 keys, corks, and sticks). Accuracy was greater than 80% and was unaffected by …

Range Expansion By Moose Into Coastal Temperate Rainforests Of British Columbia, Canada, C. T. Darimont, P. C. Paquet, T. E. Reimchen, V. Crichton

Biogeography and Ecological Opportunity Collection

Ranges of species are dynamic and respond to long-term climate change and contemporary effects such as habitat modification. We report here that moose (Alces alces) have recently colonized coastal temperate rainforests of British Columbia, Canada. Contrary to recent publications, field observations of moose and their sign, combined with their occurrence in wolf (Canis lupus) faeces, suggest that moose are now widespread on the coastal mainland and occur on least three islands. Traditional ecological knowledge (information accumulated by aboriginal peoples about their environment) suggests that colonization occurred during the mid 1900s, concomitant with logging of major watersheds that bisect the Coast …
