The materials in this collection document the programs and activities of the USF St. Petersburg Women’s Organization, a group established in 1979 as an offshoot of the USF Women’s Club in Tampa. Membership included staff, faculty, and spouses at USF St. Petersburg. The minutes, correspondence, and other records offer an excellent portrait of an important campus-wide organization that took shape during the first major expansion of the campus beyond its original site on the peninsula.

This article provides a list of helpful teaching tips for instructional librarians who need to meet the changing generational needs of their patrons. Specific generational qualities and attitudes of Generation X and Generation Y are discussed along with educational techniques and software recommendations. These tips are based on the authors' experiences at Drexel University's Hahnemann Library and Thomas Jefferson University's Scott Memorial Library, both of which are academic health sciences libraries.

This supplementary report details the completion, submission, and reception of The Usability Study of the Coates Library Website: Final Report. The update includes a catalog of website revisions conducted in summer 2005, many of which were direct responses to the findings of the study. Further, commentary is provided on usability study theory and practice that may be helpful to others conducting similar research methods.

An Economic Assessment Of Damage Caps In Medical Malpracitce Litigation Imposed By State Laws And The Implications For Federal Policy And Law, Paul Wazzan

Many states have implemented laws which limit non-economic (e.g., pain and suffering) damages as a result of medical malpractice. These laws are seen by proponents as reducing medical malpractice insurance costs and preserving access to health care – especially for lower income individuals. Opponents believe that individuals are harmed through being prevented from seeking a full measure of redress for medical malpractice incidents, by reducing access to the court system, and that these laws simply enrich insurance companies and doctors.

Federal lawmakers are currently studying the potential effect of uniform medical malpractice damage limits at the national level. It is …

As this community embarks upon the discussion of regionalism, Parity, Inc. will monitor and actively participate in these developments to ensure that any movement toward governmental regionalism or regional service delivery indeed provides parity and enhances the economic, educational and social conditions of African-Americans throughout the region.

There is no question about it; rural population loss and Metropolitan concentration continue to be important factors in shaping social and economic conditions in much of America’s Great Plains region. Despite widespread population increases throughout much of nonmetropolitan America during the 1990s, the rural Great Plains has remained an area of persistent decline (Johnson and Beale, 1998 and 2001). Declining populations have characterized many Great Plains counties since the early 1900s, and the trend has continued with few exceptions through the most recent census in 2000. In this Article, the author analyzes the reactions of 147 New York City law firms to the 1994 enactment of the New York Limited Liability Partnership statute, which provided New York law firm partners with the first convenient mechanism to limit their personal liability for partnership debts. Using both quantitative and qualitative evidence, she evaluates whether the behavior of New York law firms supports the signaling theory of organizational form—that is, the theory that firms use the partnership form to signal to the marketplace that they provide high quality legal services, due to either superior monitoring or to profit sharing. …

When I addressed you for the first time on March 25, 2000, we were in a despondent and gloomy mood. The economy was stagnant, external debt payment difficulties were pervasive and the financial soundness indicators of the banking system in Pakistan were quite worrisome. Public sector owned and managed banks dominated the system with its peculiar bureaucratic culture, indifferent service standards, laid back and lethargic business practices and narrow product range. The Government of Pakistan was underwriting the losses of these banks out of its scarce budgetary resources. Average lending rates hovered around 15 to 16 percent, credit growth to …

The Citizens Research Council announces the release of the Catalog of Local Government Services. The Catalog is the result of a survey sent to the governments of 670 counties, cities, villages, and counties in 24 Michigan counties. The surveys asked which services are provided to residents of each community, and if the services are provided, whether they are provided by the units themselves, through cooperative arrangements, by another unit, or by contract. Responses were received from about 70 percent of the units contacted. The data show that Michigan cities, villages, and townships cannot be characterized in simple terms. The menu …

Emotional Fluency And The Discrepancy-Attribution Hypothesis, Carissa Zimmerman

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate emotional fluency within the framework of the discrepancy-attribution hypothesis. A mismatch between expected and actual fluency results in a feeling of surprisingly good fit, which can lead people to misattribute fluency gained from stimulus manipulations to pastness. Experiment 1 replicated Whittlesea s (2002) finding that words completing high constraint sentence stems were judged to have been studied in a previous phase more often than words completing low constraint sentence stems, regardless of whether the words were actually studied or not. Experiment 1 also provided support for the emotional-fluency hypothesis; participants judged emotional …

Senator Huey P. Long and radio priest Father Charles E. Coughlin were powerful forces in the public sphere of the United States in 1930. Often accused of being demagogues and Fascists, both men brought to the American people a message designed to relieve the suffering that had taken the country during the Depression. This message was rooted in the tradition of American Populism in which they had both grown up. The rhetoric of both men espoused faith in simple solutions and blamed Wall Street financiers, wealthy industrialists, and corrupt politicians for the hard times that had come. Just as interesting …

Behavioral, Evaluative, And Affective Consequences Of Forgiveness, Amanda Snook

Psychology Honors Theses

This experiment manipulated the expression of forgiveness after an offense in order to investigate participants' responses to being forgiven. After informing participants that they "lost" a critical document, the experimenter forgave, did not forgive, or did not communicate an offense to the participants. This manipulation did not directly affect participants' willingness to help the experimenter. It did, however, significantly interact with participants' agreeableness when self-esteem and tendency to forgive were covaried, such that high-agreeable people helped most in the no-offense condition and less when unforgiven. Low-agreeable participants demonstrated the opposite trend, with more helping in the unforgiven condition than no-offense. …
