U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Amendment E Appeal, J. David Aiken May 2004

U.S. Supreme Court Rejects Amendment E Appeal, J. David Aiken

Cornhusker Economics

On August 19, 2003 the Eighth Circuit Federal Court of Appeals ruled that South Dakota’s constitutional “Amendment E” restricting corporate farming violated the Interstate Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution. South Dakota Farm Bureau v Hazeltine, 340 F3d 583 (8CA 2003). On May 3, 2004 the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the State of South Dakota’s appeal of the Hazeltine ruling. Because Amendment E is similar to Nebraska’s Initiative 300 (I300), the Supreme Court decision allowing the Hazeltine decision to stand suggests that I300 may be vulnerable to a similar legal challenge.

Small Arms Reduction Programme (Sarp) For The Great Lakes Region, Undp May 2004

Small Arms Reduction Programme (Sarp) For The Great Lakes Region, Undp

Global CWD Repository

The proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW) in the Great Lakes Region (GLR) of Africa has exacerbated conflicts in Burundi, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Sudan, Angola, Congo-Brazzaville and elsewhere in the region. Small arms availability has also aggravated the degree of violence by increasing the lethality and duration of hostilities, and the resulting culture of violence has obstructed peace efforts and delayed the launching of economic and social recovery in post-war societies in the region. Until very recently, governments in the region have lacked the capacity to deal with illicit supplies and trafficking, and even …

Perceptions Of Height, Attractiveness, And Power, Michelle A. Worth

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to explore how perceptions of physical attractiveness and power changed based on an individual's height and gender. Participants were 117 Rowan University students (53 males and 64 females, mean age = 20.9 years). Students were administered a packet that asked demographic data including their age, sex, height, weight, major, hometown, academic status, and marital status. Digital Infrastructure Development Within A Nonprofit Polymer Science Library: An Analysis Of The Transition To Digital Serials At The Michigan Molecular Institute, Natalie A. Tucker, Robert P. Holley May 2004

Digital Infrastructure Development Within A Nonprofit Polymer Science Library: An Analysis Of The Transition To Digital Serials At The Michigan Molecular Institute, Natalie A. Tucker, Robert P. Holley

School of Information Sciences Faculty Research Publications

The authors analyze the issues that the Michigan Molecular Institute Library (MMI) will face in making the transition to digital serials. Supporting a specialized research institute, the library has a limited number of serial subscriptions (68) from a large number of publishers (42). Furthermore, its specialized nature limits the number of potential consortia partners. Strengths include a user community of skilled researchers in a well-defined research area. In making the transition, MMI will encounter both similar and different issues than those found in larger academic and research libraries. Topics covered include current access, planning, licensing, archival concerns, interlibrary loan, interoperability, …
