Explicating Culture And Its Influence On Magazine Advertisements, Pamela Morris
School of Communication: Faculty Publications and Other Works
The research contributes knowledge about cultures and culture’s influence on advertisements. The study takes a macro-level perspective while identifying cultural differences that are linked to gender portrayal variations in advertisements. A model is built using 74 country economic and social statistics to arrive at cultural dimensions that are analyzed with a content analysis of magazine advertisements from 108 countries. Findings show stereotypical gender portrayals in advertisements throughout the world.

Management Of Hydrologically Connected Surface Water And Groundwater In Nebraska, J. David Aiken
Cornhusker Economics
On April 13, 2004 the Nebraska Legislature adopted LB962, one of the most far-reaching water laws in the state’s history. Governor Johanns signed LB962 into law on April 15, 2004. LB962 is based upon the December 2003 recommendations of the Nebraska Water Policy Task Force, and builds upon 1996 integrated water management legislation (LB108). This newsletter traces the development of integrated water management policies in Nebraska and how they are affected by LB962.

Conduct, Learning, And Substance Use Disorders In An Adolescent Male: A Case Study, Dana F. Wales
Conduct, Learning, And Substance Use Disorders In An Adolescent Male: A Case Study, Dana F. Wales
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this case study was to examine best practice interventions for an individual diagnosed with Conduct, Learning, and Substance Use Disorders. Empirically supported research was evaluated and compared to normative practices of the agency where the client resided. The intervention process included a psychosocial assessment, Differential Diagnosis as well as multiple levels of intervention. Outcome measures were used to assess depression, anxiety, and coping skills. However, a lack of cooperation and follow through by the client and his family invalidated these measures. Clinical observations and staff reports indicated that the overall intervention had mixed results with this client. …

Wireless Local Number Portability: New Rules Will Have Broad Effects, Stephen M. Kessing
Wireless Local Number Portability: New Rules Will Have Broad Effects, Stephen M. Kessing
Duke Law & Technology Review
After a delay of over seven years, wireless local number portability rules ("WLNP") finally went into effect on November 24, 2003. These rules, promulgated by the Federal Communications Commission, allow wireless subscribers to change service providers within a given location while retaining the same phone number. The rules also allow consumers to transfer a land-based telephone number to a cellular provider. These new choices will likely have a significant impact on the wireless industry and increase competition in an already intense playing field. This iBrief provides a summary of the new rules, looks at the history and litigation, and predicts …
