We feel there is a need for opportunities for clinical and administrative faculties to connect with students in a way that can fit into the very busy schedules of both students and faculty/staff. Our plan is to use the Student Portal currently being developed by the Office of Academic Technology. There, one click would connect students to faculty/staff profiles where the student could query topics of interest and then email selected faculty and staff. Gray level co-occurrence matrix has proven to be a powerful basis for use in texture classification. Various textural parameters calculated from the gray level co-occurrence matrix help understand the details about the overall image content. The aim of this research is to investigate the use of the gray level co-occurrence matrix technique as an absolute image quality metric. The underlying hypothesis is that image quality can be determined by a comparative process in which a sequence of images is compared to each other to determine the point of diminishing returns. Kentucky Justice and Safety Research Bulletin

This study extends a growing body of research on offenders' perceptions of the punitiveness of criminal sanctions. Specifically, we examine punishment equivalency ratings by Kentucky probationers and parolees (N-588) meant to gauge their perceptions of the severity of prison compared to both probation and county jail. Ratings are analyzed by several demographic characteristics. We find that, in general, survey respondents pereceived county jail as more severe than prison but that probation was rated as less severe.

Trade Mechanism Selection In Markets With Frictions, Gabriele Camera, Alain Delacroix

We endogenize the trade mechanism in a search economy with many homogeneous sellers and many heterogeneous buyers of unobservable type. We study how heterogeneity and the traders' continuation values—which are endogenous—influence the sellers' choice of trade mechanism. Sellers trade off the probability of an immediate sale against the surplus expected from it, choosing whether to trade with everyone and how quickly. In equilibrium sellers may simply target one buyer type via non-negotiable offers (price posting), or may price discriminate (haggling). We also study when haggling generates trading delays. Security And Prosperity: A Preliminary Report On The January 2004 By The People Citizen Deliberations

On Saturday, January 24, 2004, a random sample of rural Nebraskans participated in a national dialogue about America’s national security and involvement in Iraq, and international free trade as one of ten communities (and the only rural community) selected to participate in MacNeil/Lehrer Productions’ By the People Citizen Deliberations. The Deliberations were videotaped by Nebraska Educational Television and will be included in national and state televised broadcasts. Participants in Nebraska and in the other communities completed surveys to measure their opinions about America’s security interests, the intervention in Iraq, and trade policies.

Importation Of Obsidian At Cerro Palenque, Honduras: Results Of An Analysis By Edxrf, Julia A. Hendon

The results of source analysis by EDXRF of obsidian artifacts from the Mesoamerican site of Cerro Palenque in Honduras are reported and changes over time discussed. Sources of obsidian include Ixtepeque, El Chayal, Jalapa, San Martin Jilotepeque, and San Barolome in Guatemala. Some Pachuca obsidian from Mexico was also found. Honduran sources include La Esperanza and La Union. The implications of the obsidian sources are discussed in the context of changes at Cerro Palenque over time as it becomes the largest settlement in the lower Ulua Valley (Sula Valley) in the ninth century AD.

The study of attitudes towards those with AIDS is relatively recent. Most studies have examined attitudes concerning health and medical concerns. Little research has focused on attitudes toward social and behavior concerns. The few that have focused on such attitudes have employed relatively small samples collected primarily out of convenience. The studies that have used national samples have primarily addressed public policy issues. Using national data from the 1988 General Social Survey, this paper examines the effects of personal knowledge about the AIDS virus and other attitudinal variables on four dimensions of social and behavioral concern for those with AIDS …

The purpose of this study is to explore household tourism decision making. There is an extensive literature on consumer choice in general. In terms of tourism, the main focus has been on motivational factors. However, as part of the emergence of a literature which studies the issues of tourism and gender, there are some authors who focus on holiday decision making. In this context the focus here is the distinctive roles and power relations within a couple. The study is exploratory in nature and employs a self-administered questionnaire. The literature on second home ownership is by now quite extensive. While it may be also quite disparate, as Kaltenborn (1998) has claimed, identifiable areas within the general second home literature have begun to emerge. This paper focuses on one such area, that which explores the meaning of second home ownership. It re-visits one of the basic questions in the literature by asking why do people have second homes?
