Policy For The Implementation Of Ecologically Sustainable Development Fisheries And Aquaculture Within Western Australia, W. J. Fletcher
Fisheries Management Papers
The purpose of this ESD policy is to outline a way forward by showing in a practical manner: • how the ESD principles will be interpreted and applied within the fisheries context generally and within the Department of Fisheries specifically, • the conceptual framework that will be used to assess performance against ESD principles, • the methods for reporting on and auditing this performance, and • how these principles and the framework relate to other relevant state, national and international treaties and instruments.

An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Motivation, Test Preparation And Test Performance, Cassidy Walton
An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Motivation, Test Preparation And Test Performance, Cassidy Walton
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The relationship between motivation, test preparation, and test performance was investigated using two samples, lire fighter applicants and college students. Motivation and test preparation were measured by Arvey and Stickland's (1991) Test Attitude Survey; test performance consisted of selection test scores or class examinations. The results indicated that the relationship between motivation, test preparation, and test performance varied depending on the sample (i.e., fire fighter applicants or college students) and the context (i.e., written or Physical Ability Test, class exam, or final examination). The results for fire fighters indicated that motivation was related to written test performance but not to …

Symbolic Closure Through Memory, Reparation And Revenge In Post-Conflict Societies, Brandon Hamber, Richard A. Wilson
Research Papers
Countries going through democratic transition have to address how they will deal with the human rights crimes committed during the authoritarian era. In the context of amnesty for perpetrators, truth commissions have emerged as a standard institution to document the violent past. Increasingly, claims are made that truth commissions have beneficial psychological consequences; that is, that they facilitate 'catharsis', or 'heal the nation', or allow the nation to 'work through' a violent past. This article draws upon trauma counseling experience and anthropological fieldwork among survivors to challenge these claims in the context of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission. …

Leadership In Virtual Field Service Organizations, Charley Price
Theses and Graduate Projects
This study examines the leadership effectiveness of technology-based companies and their respective virtual field service organizations. Specifically, this research surveyed four service-based organizations whose managers were responsible for both local and remote field-engineering personnel. Local engineers are defined as residing in the same office or city location with their manager, and remote engineers are defined as residing in a different office and city location from their manager. Each participating service organization's personnel, made up of managers and engineers, participated through an anonymous survey response.
The survey collected information about each participant's belief of how effective their organization's leaders managed their …

A Fourth Cellular Operator?, B Radhika, B G Shivakumar
IIMB Management Review
The cellular industry in India is expected to mature in a few years. Being a third world market, the penetration levels of cell phones cannot be expected to exceed 10-15%. To achieve this penetration rate, services have to be made affordable to the masses and this can be achieved only through increased competition. As a measure of increasing the competition, the regulatory framework has permitted the entry of four players in a circle. Given that some of the existing players have not yet broken even, the question of the viability of four players comes up.

Immediately after the events of September 11, the US was stunned by horror and disbelief, angry at the perpetrators of such awful violence, puzzled by the country’s inability to recognize itself in the eyes of the world, and eager to learn more about other cultures from which it felt so alien. Our college campuses reflected this range of responses. At their first meetings of the academic year, members of NERCHE’s Think Tanks, who represent faculty and administrators in New England, and SAGES (Senior Academics Guiding Educational Strategies), retired presidents and provosts, described their reactions and the range of responses campus.

Race, Welfare Reform, And Nonprofit Organizations, Michael Reisch, David Sommerfeld
The Journal of Sociology & Social Welfare
This article presents research on the impact of welfare reform on 90 nonprofit organizations in Southeast Michigan. Utilizing a refined survey instrument, in-depth interviews and focus groups with agency executives and staff, and the analysis of agency documents, it assesses how the racial characteristics of agencies' client populations affected the organizational consequences of welfare reform. The study confirmed that welfare reform has affected the ability of nonprofit organizations to meet the increased expectations generated by recent legislation. These effects have been particularly pronounced among agencies serving a high proportion of racial minority clients.
