An Exploration Of Family Adjustment To Nursing Home Placement As Perceived By Nursing Home Social Workers, Alicia Ann Vandenberg
Theses and Graduate Projects
This primarily qualitative study was undertaken to explore two main research questions. The primary research question was: "What do families need when admitting a loved one to a nursing home?" The secondary research question was: "Are there ways that nursing home staff. especially social workers, can help family members adjust to placement?" Data were obtained by surveying a sample frame of social workers who belong to the Minnesota Nursing Home Social Workers Association and whose names appeared on the association's mailing list. Ninety-eight potential participants selected at random by stratified sampling were sent questionnaires. Open ended, short answer, scale, and …

Study Focuses On Business Entry Strategies, Marilyn R. Schlake
Cornhusker Economics
Small business ownership is the life-blood of Nebraska’s economy. In fact, they comprise more than 90% of all businesses across the state. Two burning questions that the Nebraska EDGE (Enhancing, Developing and Growing Entrepreneurs) Program, located at the Center for Applied Rural Innovation, UNL, wanted to know is: How do many of Nebraska’s business owners actually decide to enter into business ownership? And, what are the implications of these entry decisions on their willingness to access outside assistance?

Memory Functioning In Children Exposed To Domestic Violence Trauma, Deanna Cosgrove
Memory Functioning In Children Exposed To Domestic Violence Trauma, Deanna Cosgrove
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis describes the memory functioning in children exposed to domestic violence trauma. Research findings suggest that adult participants with a clinical diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as defined by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual-IV (American Psychiatric Association, 1994) suffer from impairments in memory associated with reductions in hippocampal volume. However, a question arises as to whether children who have been exposed to domestic violence trauma will differ from controls in their memory functioning. A question also arises as to the relationship between the children's parent-reported behaviors and their memory functioning. The Children's Memory Scale (CMS) (Cohen, 1997) was administered …

A Critical Review Of Issues In Applying Restorative Justice Principles And Practices To Cases Of Hate Crime, Terri Lee Kelly
Dissertations and Theses
A restorative approach to justice focuses on accountability for healing the harm done to victims and communities as a result of criminal acts. Hate crimes are intended to send a threatening message to a particular group of people. There is enough reliable research on restorative justice principles and practices, and on the causes, meaning and impact of hate crimes, to bring together a representative selection of available literature for a critical review. This thesis critically reviews the literature of restorative justice principles and practices, and the literature of hate crime causes, definitions, laws, and typologies of offenders, using as a …
