This study examines behaviors and preferences that are characteristic of different positions of service inside a nonprofit church organization. Interviews with incumbents in the Structural Ministry and the Musical Ministry involved with the churches of Christ in Nashville, Tennessee, were conducted to identify traits and behaviors common to these distinct groups. The traits and behaviors identified in these interviews were then used to predict college students' future membership into these positions. The NEO-FFI (Costa & McCrae, 1992) was also administered in order to assess the incremental value of a professionally developed instrument. The partisan realignment in the South is a well-known fact. The 20th century began with the South solidly in the hands of the Democratic Party. This was true because the Southern Democratic Party look positions congruent with the Southern electorate's public policy preferences: namely, a states-centered view of government and an opposition to more egalitarian racial Policy.

This chapter examines the global trend toward transferring water supply and management from public to private control. It outlines drivers such as financial pressures, efficiency goals, and ideological shifts, while reviewing diverse privatization models—from service contracts to full concessions. The text highlights potential benefits, including improved infrastructure and capital access, but focuses on significant risks: inequitable access, rising costs, weakened public oversight, loss of water rights, and environmental neglect. Case studies from Argentina, Bolivia, and the United States illustrate both successes and failures. Intimate Hierarchies And Qur'anic Saliva (Tëfli): Textuality In A Senegalese Ethnomedical Encounter, Sabina Perrino

This article examines the multimodal textuality of a videotaped ethnomedical

encounter between a Senegalese healer and his patient and considers these

findings in light of metadiscourses on healing that were collected in interviews.

The article demonstrates how a cultural figure of the healing process

is precipitated out of patterns of co-occurrence (or "textures") of linguistic,

paralinguistic, and nonlinguistic semiotic devices and suggests that this

approach is well equipped to illuminate ethnomedical practice in Senegal and

elsewhere.

Over the period of the intervention and operation of the-AGI project, there was a considerable decline in gun crimes in the target precincts, whereas the number of such offenses rose in the comparison precinct. This was particularly the case in the Ninth Precinct, where a statistically significant reduction of gun crimes occurred. Perhaps more importantly, this reduction represented 112 fewer gun crimes, and thus a commensurate fewer number of victims, per month in this precinct. Given the design of this study and available data, these results cannot be directly attributed to the intervention. However, there is a strong indication that …

For this project, 92 students entered an abandoned theater room in an old basement of the university where sand was scattered throughout. The purpose of the study was to experimentally demonstrate that psychological suggestions could produce illness reports and to explore who is most likely to say that they would sue for personal damages. The students filled out the Trait-State Anger Scale and two subscales, Anger Temperament and Anger Reaction as well as the Costello-Corey Anxiety Scale, the Hardiness Inventory, the Pennebaker Inventory of Limbic Languidness, and, embedded in the Hardiness Inventory, measures of current illness as a result of …
