This project discusses the problem of eating disorders in dancers. The development of eating disorders can be attributed to sociocultural development, and psychological factors. Dance places an emphasis on thinness, and the pressure to obtain ideal standards of thinness appear to be particularly salient in the development of eating disorders in dancers.

The Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus defines osmosis both as "any process by which something is acquired by absorption," and as a biological cellular function by which solvents are absorbed through semipermeable partitions. The two articles by Professor Sylvia Lazos and Donna Maeda, which both deal with the causes and effects of labor migration, though on different levels and involving different populations, challenge traditional notions of the physical and metaphysical borders between nation-states.

This study examined the opinions of public elementary school educators in Western Riverside County towards Child Protective Services (CPS). It also investigated whether their opinions influenced cooperation with CPS surrounding child abuse and neglect. Data was gathered from 196 public elementary school teachers from 12 elementary schools in 3 districts using a quantitative, non-standardized, group-administered questionnaire.

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Since its creation through the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has helped liberalize economies, negotiate trade agreements, and coordinate U.S. trade policy. Although situated within the Executive Office of the President, the USTR is best seen through the lens of legislative action. Congress has used successive trade acts to both expand and constrain the Office, while forcing it to reconcile multilateral goals with unilateral domestic objectives. An examination of the USTR's developmental stages identifies the congressional impact upon the Office and the resulting political balance.

Description of Topic: In settling trade disputes, members of the World Trade Organization use a dispute settlement mechanism set forth in the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations. This multilateral system of settling disputes is implemented if a member believes other members are violating trade rules. Disputes arise when countries adopt policies that break the WTO agreements or that cause them to fail to fulfill obligations. Dispute settlement procedures have existed under many different trade agreements. Predicting Oral Reading Miscues, Jack Mostow, Joseph Beck, S. Vanessa Winter, Shaojun Wang

This paper explores the problem of predicting specific reading mistakes, called miscues, on a given word. Characterizing likely miscues tells an automated reading tutor what to anticipate, detect, and remediate. As training and test data, we use a database of over 100,000 miscues transcribed by University of Colorado researchers. We explore approaches that exploit different sources of predictive power: the uneven distribution of words in text, and the fact that most miscues are real words. Regarding the regional employment rate: is the glass half full or half empty? While the question isn't really that simple, due to the methodology of calculating unemployment rates, it illustrates the classic quandary of ambiguous news. Oregon, like much of the country, has experienced a recent sharp increase in unemployment and the state's jobless rate was declared to be higher than the national average. While this news may appear alarming, in historical context, Oregon's November unemployment rate of 6.4% was not exceptionally high (the rate has since climbed higher). That rate was approximately 65% of the level seen in the …
