Applying The Concept Of Recreational Specialization To Rhode Island Alliance Anglers, Eric Asadorian Jan 1996

Applying The Concept Of Recreational Specialization To Rhode Island Alliance Anglers, Eric Asadorian

Marine Affairs Theses and Major Papers

Many recreationally popular marine species of fish are at or near historic lows in terms of their overall numbers. Many of these species, such as cod, summer flounder, winter flounder, and bluefish, are also commercially valuable. Fishery managers must be able to make allocation and management decisions that both protect the resource and maintain user satisfaction. The basis for achieving this goal lies in the understanding of what the users expectations, satisfactions and perceptions are related to their marine recreational fishing experience. It is often the case that a population of anglers are managed as a homogeneous group, with similar …

Internetted Nodes And C2 Structures, Robert J. Bunker Jan 1996

Internetted Nodes And C2 Structures, Robert J. Bunker

CGU Faculty Publications and Research

In the article "Center of Gravity" (Military Intelligence, April-June 1995), Captains Bruce Niedrauer and Lisa Bennett succinctly emphasized the concept of understanding the center of gravity and why it is critical to intelligence personnel. This concept, based upon Army doctrine, has been published in FM 100-5, Operations. Since the publication of FM 100-5 in June 1993, however, a number of doctrinal concepts and premises have become obsolete in the rapidly changing environment in which the Army conducts operations. Questions of "conceptual obsolescence" have already been raised toward the former concept of operations other than war (OOTW) and, more recently, toward …

Nonlethal Technology And Fourth Epoch War: A New Paradigm Of Politico-Military Force, Robert J. Bunker, T. Lindsay Moore Jan 1996

Nonlethal Technology And Fourth Epoch War: A New Paradigm Of Politico-Military Force, Robert J. Bunker, T. Lindsay Moore

CGU Faculty Publications and Research

How politico-military force will be employed in future war is of major concern to U.S. national security and, because of its operational leadership in this area, to the Army's Force XXI campaign plan. It is envisioned that such force will qualitatively change because of the introduction of advanced technology. This technology will extend the West's continuing mastery of the application of political violence. No longer in war will the West have the capability to solely to kill; now, like a martial arts master, it will be able to reply upon nonlethal means to disarm an opponent. As a result, an …

A Thread Of Evidence: Shaker Textiles At South Union, Kentucky, Jonathan Jeffrey, Donna C. Parker Jan 1996

A Thread Of Evidence: Shaker Textiles At South Union, Kentucky, Jonathan Jeffrey, Donna C. Parker

SCL Faculty and Staff Publications

Textile production was one of the many routine tasks performed in the early American home. Those who joined communal groups, like the Shaker converts at South Union, Kentucky, brought to the colony knowledge of these activities. Shakers manufactured fabric – linen, silk, and woolens – in about the same manner as most of their contemporaries, only on a larger scale. Though few of their contemporaries left documentation regarding the tedious tasks involved in textile production, the South Union Shaker community, located in Logan County, kept intimate accounts of daily activities through journals, diaries, day books, and correspondence which included records …

An Alternating Treatments Comparison Of Two Intensive Interventions For Food Refusal., W H Ahearn, Mary Louise Kerwin, P S Eicher, J Shantz, W Swearingin Jan 1996

An Alternating Treatments Comparison Of Two Intensive Interventions For Food Refusal., W H Ahearn, Mary Louise Kerwin, P S Eicher, J Shantz, W Swearingin

College of Science & Mathematics Departmental Research

We compared two treatment packages involving negative reinforcement contingencies for 3 children with chronic food refusal. One involved physically guiding the child to accept food contingent on noncompliance, whereas the other involved nonremoval of the spoon until the child accepted the presented food. Subsequent to baseline, an alternating treatments comparison was implemented in a multiple baseline design across subjects. After each child had been exposed to at least nine sessions of each treatment condition and percentage of bites accepted had increased to at least 80%, the child's caregivers selected the preferred treatment package. The results indicated that both treatments were …
