Interactive Behaviors Between Students And Instructors In The Outdoors, Christine Cashel Jan 1996

Interactive Behaviors Between Students And Instructors In The Outdoors, Christine Cashel

Research in Outdoor Education

Research investigating the instructional process has been conducted in many settings but is still a young science (Rink, 1985). The relationships between variables that affect the teaching-learning process and student achievement have been studied in contemporary educational research. Few, if any, studies have focused on the interactive behaviors of instructors and students in the outdoor environment.

The Current Status Of Women's Employment In Outdoor Leadership, T. A. Loeffler Jan 1996

The Current Status Of Women's Employment In Outdoor Leadership, T. A. Loeffler

Research in Outdoor Education

The study analyzed women's employment rates from 62 outdoor organizations to determine women's representation in the outdoor field. Statistical analysis revealed that women were under-represented in outdoor organizations at the executive and management levels using a proportionality standard. Additionally, women reported lower salaries and higher gender-based discrimination occurrences than their male counterparts.

"Kind Of In The Middle": The Gendered Meanings Of The Outdoors For Women Students, Karla A. Henderson, Sherry Winn, Nina S. Roberts

Research in Outdoor Education

The purpose of this study was to examine the links between past, present, and future involvement for females and perceptions about whether the outdoors was perceived as a gendered environment Data were collected using five focus group interviews. Several aspects of grounded theory emerged from this study including aspects of exposure to outdoor opportunities as a child, involvement in the outdoors as a result of an4 resistance to a gendered society, and contradictions between idealized attitudes and the realities of women's involvement in the outdoors.

Personality Preferences Of Outdoor Participants, Christine Cashel, Diane Montgomery, Suzie Lane Jan 1996

Personality Preferences Of Outdoor Participants, Christine Cashel, Diane Montgomery, Suzie Lane

Research in Outdoor Education

There remains some question about how to link what is known about individuals to the planning and implementation of group structured outdoor programs. One theory that may illuminate the program planning and implementation processes in terms of collective differences is Jungian personality theory.

Ethics Among Christian Counselors: A Survey Of Beliefs And Behaviors, Mark R. Mcminn, Katheryn Rhoads Meek Jan 1996

Ethics Among Christian Counselors: A Survey Of Beliefs And Behaviors, Mark R. Mcminn, Katheryn Rhoads Meek

Faculty Publications - Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) Program

Previous researchers have reported survey results of the beliefs and behaviors of psychologists (Pope, Tabachnick, & Keith-Spiegel, 1987) and counselors (Gibson & Pope, 1993) with regard to professional ethics. We sent the same instrument to 900 Christian counselors, and received back 496 completed surveys. Rarely and commonly practiced ethical behaviors are described, and differences by sex, age, highest degree, and licensure status are discussed. Although Christian counselors generally appear to have high regard for and good awareness of ethical standards, many unlicensed Christian counselors may benefit from additional training in preventing exploitative counseling relationships. Current professional standards for multiple-role relationships …

A Search For Inflectional Priming Reveals An Effect Of Discourse Type On The Lexical Access Of Inflected Verbs, Gregory Thomson, Bushra Adnan Zawaydeh Jan 1996

A Search For Inflectional Priming Reveals An Effect Of Discourse Type On The Lexical Access Of Inflected Verbs, Gregory Thomson, Bushra Adnan Zawaydeh

Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session

A cross-modal priming experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that lexical access of verbs marked with a specific inflectional suffix would be facilitated by immediately prior exposure to semantically and contextually unrelated verbs with the same suffix. Such priming was not detected. Rather it turned out that bare root forms showed an absolute advantage over inflected forms in this experimental paradigm. However, an unanticipated finding appeared: responses to inflected forms were affected by the kind of discourse that was being auditorily attended to at the same time of the visual lexical decision. There was no such effect of the …

Effect Of Regulation On Banking: California 1879-1929, Lynne Doti, Richard Runyon Jan 1996

Effect Of Regulation On Banking: California 1879-1929, Lynne Doti, Richard Runyon

Economics Faculty Articles and Research

California had a virtually unregulated banking environment until the first comprehensive banking regulations were passed in 1905. These regulations, and subsequent changes in 1909, required reserves and paid-up capital. Several tests of commonly accepted measures of safety, such as bank reserves, paid-up capital, bank failures, and real estate loans that resulted in foreclosure, are compared for selected years before and after the regulations. Results do not clearly demonstrate that regulation enhanced the safety of individual banks, but do support the conclusion that regulation enhanced the safety of the banking system as a whole.

On Generating The Greek Noun Phrase, Cheryl A. Black, Stephen A. Marlett Jan 1996

On Generating The Greek Noun Phrase, Cheryl A. Black, Stephen A. Marlett

Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session

This article examines the basic noun phrase of Koine Greek and proposes an analysis which is consistent with current views on phrase structure within X-bar theory. The fact that the syntactic distribution of quantifiers, demonstratives and descriptive adjectives is different leads to the (not surprising) proposal that these are distinct word classes in Greek, as in many other languages. The distribution of articles is given serious attention and is found to support the relatively recent proposal (the DP hypothesis) that the traditional noun phrase is best analyzed as a determiner phrase which may then take an NP as its complement.
