News As A Political Resource: Media Strategies And Political Identity In The U.S. Women's Movement, 1966-1975, Bernadette Barker-Plummer
Media Studies
This paper discusses news as a political resource for social movements. Specifically, the paper elaborates a conceptualization of news as a discursive resource, and suggests a dialogical model for media‐movement relationships. The paper then uses this framework to investigate the interactions with news media of U.S. women's movement groups. It describes how the two “branches” of the women's movement understood news differently and developed quite different and specific strategies which are called media pragmatism and media subversion. The study raises questions not only about what kind of resource news might be, and to whom it might be available, but also …

The archival community is within the early and unsettled stages of an important transition in information access as an increasing number of repositories and records management programs utilize powerful communications tools such as the Internet Gopher, Cello, and Mosaic. By the spring of 1994, the authors identified well over a dozen academic institutions that had made descriptive guides to historical materials or records management information available through the Internet. Among the first repositories to make historical records descriptions available in this way were Johns Hopkins University, Wheaton College, Trent University, and the University of Virginia. Valuation Of Transferable Delivery Rights For Marketing Cooperatives, Charles V. Moore, Jay E. Noel

Delivery rights to a cooperative's marketing pool can take on a value independent of the members' equity share under certain conditions. Based on anecdotal information, transferable delivery rights become valuable when the pool is fixed in size (closed), members are protected from exploitation of quasi economic rents, and have an assured "home" for their production. The greater the potential buyers' aversion to risk, the higher the value of the delivery right. The right has additional value if the cooperative generates a premium per unit return due to product differentiation and market power. Cooperatives competing with investor-owned firms in less than …
