A Phenomenology Of Textuality, Alessandro Tomasi

Institute for the Humanities Theses

This thesis introduces a new meaning of the word "textuality" based on its etymology, as a "woven thing. I reject the notion of isolatable entities that we call "words" and argue that language presents itself, in our experience, as "textual." In this sense, "textuality" is not limited to written texts, but it applies to every linguistic media: thinking, writing, and speaking.

I attempt a distinction between "textuality" and "contextuality" which allows me to isolate this phenomenon, "textuality," and to proceed with a phenomenological description of its features and structures. Among these, I describe to some length what I call "diesis," …

The Anchor, Volume 105.05: September 30, 1992, Hope College

The Anchor: 1992

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

This court case, decided on September 28, 1992, established that the northeast quadrant of the Fort Berthold Reservation was part of the Reservation (therefore within tribal jurisdiction) but found that the Three Affiliated Tribes did not have taxation and employment authority over the gas and oil companies operating in that quadrant. Per Tribal Tax Code, any property on the Reservation used for business or profit is subject to a one-percent taxation and per the Tribal Employment Rights Office Ordinance (TERO), any employers within the Reservation must give preference to Native American workers. Differences In Longitudinal Union Relative Wage Effects Across Gender And Race, Dwight Adamnson

Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)

This paper utilizes longitudinal union variables to examine the gender differences in the wage change from entering and leaving the union sector, as well as gender differences from remaining with a union employer and advancing up the seniority ladder. The union effects are estimated over a time trend from the late 19608 to the early 19808. The empirical results show that the female union joiner effect declines over time while the magnitude of the male union effect remains fairly stable over time. In general, the results show that unions' ability to impact wages for all white workers and black female …

Deregulation And Trade Liberalization: The Indonesian Experience, Scott Fausti, Rony Bishry

Economics Staff Paper Series (1969 - 2017)

From 1950 to 1965, Indonesia followed an import substitution industrialization development strategy. From 1966 to the present, Indonesia has moved toward an export oriented development strategy. This paper tests the predictions of the Heckscher-Ohlin-Samuelson(HOS) model of international trade by comparing Indonesia's economic performance under two contrasting development strategies. The paper concludes that Indonesia• s economic performance under the opposing development strategies supports the predictions of the HOS model. Furthermore, the Indonesian experience under the two development strategies supports the "trade as an engine of growth" hypothesis.
