Comparison Of The Efficacy Of General And Specific Performance Dimensions In An Operational Assessment Center, Wanda J. Campbell

The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of three general performance dimensions and 14 specific dimensions on various aspects of rating quality.

The categorization phase of the research tested the hypothesis that categorization accuracy and reliability would be a significantly greater for the general performance dimensions than for the specific dimensions. The results provided partial support for this hypothesis.

The aggregation phase of the research tested the following hypotheses: (1) rating accuracy would be greater when relevant behaviors were displayed with high frequency than when they were displayed with low frequency; (2) rating accuracy would be greater …

Several theories have been proposed to predict performance when operators time share tasks. The Hemispheres as Resources Model suggests tasks will be performed efficiently together if each hemisphere allocates resources to one task. The Task Hemispheric Integrity Principle predicts the best dual task performance will be found when the shortest processing route is maintained. The purpose of the present study was to test the single and dual task performance predictions of these two models. This paper studies tests for covariance stationarity under conditions which permit failure in the existence of fourth order moments. The problem is important because many econometric diagnostics such as tests for parameter constancy, constant variance and ARCH and GARCH effects routinely rely on fourth moment conditions. Moreover, such tests have recently been extensively employed with financial and commodity market data, where fourth moment conditions may well be quite tenuous and are usually untested. Data reduction involves a physical transition from sample data to econometric estimator and test statistic. This transition induces a mapping on the probability law of the sample, whose image is the distribution of the statistic of interest. At a general level, the mapping can often be captured by means of an operational algebra. Some methods than employ nonlinear functions of differential operators are suggested which can perform this task. The methods are related to pseudodifferential operator techniques that are used in abstract mathematics to solve systems of partial differential equations. Using generalized functions of random variables and generalized Taylor series expansions, we provide almost trivial demonstrations of the asymptotic theory for the LAD estimator in a regression model setting. The approach is justified by the smoothing that is delivered in the limit by the asymptotics, whereby the generalized functions are forced to appear as linear functionals wherein they become real valued. Models with fixed and random regressors, autoregressions and autoregressions with infinite variance errors are studied. In two recent articles, Sims (1988) and Sims and Uhlig (1988) question the value of much of the ongoing literature on unit roots and stochastic trends. They characterize the seeds of this literature as “sterile ideas,” the application of nonstationary limit theory as “wrongheaded and unenlightening” and the use of classical methods of inference as “unreasonable” and “logically unsound.” They advocate in place of classical methods an explicit Bayesian approach to inference that utilizes a flat prior on the autoregressive coefficient. DeJong and Whiteman adopt a related Bayesian approach in a group of papers (1989a,b,c) that seek to reevaluate the …

In recent years, research efforts have attempted to identify variables that may moderate leaders' decision making styles. Variables that have been identified include divisibility of the resource, social scripts, and type of resource being divided. This study attempted to replicate these findings and examine the influence of personality variables as defined by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Scale. The influence of the thinking-judging and feeling-judging typologies are examined in light of a resource allocation task, as well as their relationship to Blake and Mouton's Managerial Grid of leadership styles. The Repertory Of Social Care Of The Elderly, Roger A. Lohmann

This paper is an analysis of aspects of the emergence of a repertory of social care services for the elderly from the vantage point of the common theory of voluntary action. One facet of that theory, labeled here as endowment theory, is an emerging rational choice model of the praxeological implications of voluntary action within the pragmatic problem-solving tradition. Three terms – endowment, repertory and commons – are presented in the paper as terms whose conventional meanings contain previously undisclosed connotations relevant to a fuller understanding of voluntary action.

DI)very year Americans give millions of dollars to help support local public radio stations. In some communities only one radio station asks its audience for help- But in nearly half of the radio markets in the United States, two or more noncommercial radio stations solicit funds from the public. According to the 1983 Broadcasting Yearbook, 126 of the 259 radio markets have more than two public radio stations.
