A Survey Of Employment Opportunities For Graduates With A Master's In Corporate And Professional Communication: A Case Study, Michael Cronin, Payson Hall

This article evaluates regional labor market demand for graduates holding a masters in corporate and professional communication, using an extensive employer survey of communication industries, national advertisers, personnel directors and public relations managers across the university service area. Descriptive and inferential analyses estimate thousands of potential openings and reveal that a majority of executives expect the degree to enhance applicant competitiveness, grant access to upper level managerial posts, raise earning potential and, in some contexts, rival an MBA. Consulting employers further link interpersonal communication, information management and strategic messaging competencies to workforce performance and organizational growth. Utilizing Undergraduates As Teaching Assistants In The Basic Communication Course: A Model, Roseanna G. Ross

This article proposes a systematic model for employing undergraduate teaching assistants in a basic communication course within a speech communication department lacking graduate programs. Through reflective program documentation and instructional communication analysis, the study outlines institutional rationale, selection criteria, training procedures, classroom responsibilities, and evaluation practices that position the assistant as a collaborative facilitator of experiential learning activities in public speaking, interpersonal communication, and group discussion units. By comparing perceived benefits and constraints for students, assistants, and instructors, the model demonstrates how undergraduate assistants enhance formative feedback, increase speaking opportunities, and support personalized pedagogy while fostering their own professional socialization. …

The report provides historical socioeconomic data and long-range projections for major PNM utility service areas, including Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Belen, Deming (Luna County), Santa Fe, Las Vegas (San Miguel County), Gallup, and Clayton. The study analyzes population, household size, employment, and income trends from 1966–1989 and develops low, medium, and high forecasts through 2010.

Local governments confer significant benefits and costs on individuals and businesses through their power to regulate private land use. This article analyzes such regulation by using discriminant analysis to test a model of rezoning decision making. The results indicate that the best predictor of a local governing body's decision in a rezoning case is the recommendation of the appointed planning commission. This is contrary to both scholarly and popular expectations that pressure by developers or public protest is the major factor influencing elected officals in rezoning cases. The report evaluates the travel behavior, spending patterns, demographics, and economic impacts of households that requested Albuquerque tourism information during 1989. The study is based on a random mail survey of ACVB inquiries, with 342 responses from a population of roughly 29,300 households. The survey was designed to measure visitor characteristics, estimate conversion rates from information requests to actual visits, and assess the effectiveness of ACVB promotional materials.

The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.

The purpose of this study was to determine the consequences to emotionally disturbed elementary school girls of being in the minority in self-contained classes for emotionally disturbed children. This study was conducted in MISII (Modified Instructional Service II) classes, primarily for the emotionally disturbed, in the New York City Public Schools. The ratio of boys to girls was 6.5 to 1. A survey was distributed to teachers of such classes with at least one girl attending. This study compares employer unemployment insurance (UI) tax costs and worker UI benefits across the 28 largest industrial states for 1988. The comparison is done using a detailed computerized micro-simulation model which computes the worker UI benefits and employer UI taxes for each state. Assumed characteristics of employers and employees are held constant across the states so that differences in UI costs and benefits among the states can be attributed entirely to differences in UI statutes. This research was undertaken to explore the effects of anabolic steroid use on the measured personality traits of male weight trainers. The use of these drugs by competitive and non-competitive athletes worldwide has grown to enormous proportions. Anecdotal case reports that discuss various psychological manifestations associated with the use of anabolic steroids by athletes have been presented in professional journals and in the popular press in recent years. However, there have been few studies that systematically examine the psychological consequences of steroid utilization.

Theory and research about psychological development tends to be dichotomized into two broad approaches that have never been integrated. The one is Piagetian-based cognitive-developmentalism, and the other is Freudian-based psychoanalytic developmentalism. The first predominates in academic research and application and the second in clinical research and therapy. This dissertation is a theoretical integration of the Piagetian-based theory of Robert Kegan with the Freudian-based theory of Heinz Kohut known as self psychology. The present research grew out of a larger study, The Transgenerational Project for Parents and Children (TG) (Epps, 1986), which was conducted at the Howard University Child Development Center in Washington, D.C. This study provided the model for simultaneously addressing the needs of parents as well as their preadolescent children who exhibited specific learning disabilities that significantly decreased achievement levels. The present research compares the effectiveness of combining behavioral strategies, which previous research has shown to individually contribute toward enhancing patient compliance, in order to increase parental compliance with referrals for child psychotherapy.

This study was conducted to create a description of the demographic characteristics, rehabilitation outcomes, and concerns of the family members of a group of people who are older and blind. The sample for this study included 112 people who were blind and over the age of 55. In addition, the study included a description of the concerns of 40 family members who had a spouse or parent who was older and blind.

This study examined how work productivity was affected by the way in which individual monetary incentives were related to performance. Two types of relationships, or performance-pay functions, were compared: a linear function in which a specific per piece incentive was provided for each piece completed in excess of a performance standard and an exponential function in which the amount of the per piece incentive accelerated as productivity increased. Forty college subjects were randomly assigned to one of the two pay conditions. Each subject participated in 15 forty-five minute sessions. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a Performance Management (PM) intervention designed to improve the productivity and job satisfaction of clerical employees in a university admissions department. During the first phase of the intervention, supervisors applied a PM program which included an individualized daily goal setting and verbal feedback program. During phase two, graphic display of individual performance levels was added to the goals and verbal feedback program. Productivity was measured via daily self reports of tasks completed. This paper examines the determinants of the decision of low-income renters to move out of their current dwelling. Maximum score estimation is shown to be superior to ordinary discrete choice estimation techniques (probit, logit) for this problem, and for similar discrete choices that require revering a previously optimal decision. The estimation reveals psychological costs from moving for typical low income renters of at least 8% of their income ; these costs are even higher for older, longer tenure, or minority households. Policies that displace low income renters will have large social costs. In addition, the estimation results are used to …
