Rats barpressed for food on a variable-interval schedule and then received food in a runway for one of three degrees of effort. Finally, all animals again barpressed for food. Requiring five runway shuttles per food pellet produced a greater subsequent rate of barpressing than reward for each shuttle, which, in turn, yielded more barpressing than free food. A follow-up study showed the five-shuttle treatment to produce more subsequent barpressing than a control condition which omitted any runway treatment. Another experiment indicated that the higher rate of barpressing following the five-shuttle treatment was not due to greater conditioned general activity, since …

A Survey History Of Islamic Da'wah And The Egyptian-Nigerian Connections, Luka T. Daniel
A Survey History Of Islamic Da'wah And The Egyptian-Nigerian Connections, Luka T. Daniel
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
For history sources, I have depended heavily on the relevant pieces of literature in my possession, on those of Loma Linda University, California, and of the University of Washington, Seattle, and on those in the Arab Republic of Egypt, particularly at Al-Azhar University, the American University at Cairo, and the British Consulate in Cairo. Further, I have had personal interviews with professors at Loma Linda and Seattle, and with Muslim and Christian scholars (clergy and laity) in Egypt and Nigeria.
Since this survey is more historical than sociological, and since Islamic da'wah is twelve to thirteen centuries older than sociological …

The Role Of The Father In Child Development: A Review Of The Literature, J. Frank Popplewell, Anees A. Sheikh
The Role Of The Father In Child Development: A Review Of The Literature, J. Frank Popplewell, Anees A. Sheikh
Psychology Faculty Research and Publications
Traditionally, the role of the father in the psychological development of children has received relatively little attention. Recently, however, an increasing number of researchers have evinced considerable interest in this area. 'Much of the current interest...seems to have been intensified by the growing awareness of the prevalence of fatherless families and the social, economic, and psychological problems that such families encounter' (Biller, 1971, p. l). the present review brings together most of the available research in this field. The first and most substantial aspect to be discussed involves the role of the father in the sex-role development of children. Although …

A Regression Analysis Of Australopithecine Dentition, Gail Celmer Ranyard
A Regression Analysis Of Australopithecine Dentition, Gail Celmer Ranyard
Masters Theses
The permanent dentition of all known Australopithecines (except those from Hadar) are examined for size trends related to temporal and geographic variation. The Australopithecine sample is divided into four major groups for analysis: gracile Australopithecines, robust Australopithecines, ''Homo", and unknown. Mesiodistal and buccolingual dimensions for each tooth are then subjected to regression analysis. To discern temporal variation in tooth size for any of the taxonomic groups, a regression of tooth size with the median date of the specimen is performed. In order to elucidate dental variation related to geographic location, a regression analysis of tooth size with the latitude and …

The United States And China: From Noncommunication To Diplomatic Relations, Mary Jeanne Patrick
The United States And China: From Noncommunication To Diplomatic Relations, Mary Jeanne Patrick
Masters Theses
After more than two decades of fundamental differences due to lack of direct diplomatic relations, the People's Republic of China and the United States are developing a harmonious working relationship. Friendly relations between these two major nations began to improve in 1972 during President Richard Nixon's visit to China that had been arranged by Henry Kissinger, Assistant for National Security Affairs.
The purpose of this thesis is to show that nations can overcome their negative stereotyped images with one another when their leaders will enter into effective communication.
Chapter I considers the historical aspects of the Sino-American relationship.
Chapter II …
