Treatment Satisfaction And Adult Mental Health Outcomes Of Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors, Tarila Abbott
Treatment Satisfaction And Adult Mental Health Outcomes Of Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivors, Tarila Abbott
Theses and Dissertations
In the current study, we examined the impact of trauma-specific treatment and treatment satisfaction to determine if receiving treatment had an impact on the adult mental health outcomes of childhood sexual abuse survivors. One hundred ninety-four participants completed a series of self-report measures that captured their experience of childhood sexual abuse, possible enrollment in treatment, experience in treatment, and current PTSD, Depression, Alcohol Abuse, and Experiential Avoidance levels. MANOVAs were conducted to identify and examine any relationships between treatment groups. It was hypothesized that participants who received therapy specific to their childhood sexual abuse would endorse lower levels of PTSD, …
An Examination Of The Scale Of Accurate Personality Prediction’S (Sapp) Test-Retest Reliability Across A Four-Week Period, Taylor Catherine Anderson
An Examination Of The Scale Of Accurate Personality Prediction’S (Sapp) Test-Retest Reliability Across A Four-Week Period, Taylor Catherine Anderson
Theses and Dissertations
The questions surrounding how well one can truly know him/herself dates as far back as Ancient Greek times, and answering the question has been a difficult task given the complexity of human beings, and a somewhat subjective term such as the “self.” As science and technology continue to advance, so do the attempts to accurately define self-knowledge. Miller (2000) took defining self-knowledge a step further, and developed a test derived from the Sixteen Personality Prediction Questionnaire (16PF) to measure individuals’ level of self-knowledge how well they know themselves, based on their ability to accurately predict their scores on the 16PF. …

Posttraumatic Stress As A Unique Contributor To Related Health Outcomes And Healthcare Utilization In Adult Survivors Of Childhood Cancer, Emily Kathleen Crochet
Theses and Dissertations
Despite its significance in medical populations, research on posttraumatic stress (PTSS) in this population is limited in existing studies by small sample sizes and lack of follow-up data. This manuscript provides review of literature on behavioral health outcomes, which include neurocognitive and psychosocial late effects of disease/treatment, engagement in health-promoting or risk behaviors, and healthcare utilization in the childhood cancer survivor population. The current study examined the impact of PTSS on these domains of functioning, using data from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS), a multi-institutional sample. Results indicated 13.7% of survivors in our sample experienced PTSS. Survivors with PTSS …
Extraversion And Person-Environment Fit: Towards Consideration Of Jungian Theory In Organizational Psychology, Nicholas Rosemarino
Extraversion And Person-Environment Fit: Towards Consideration Of Jungian Theory In Organizational Psychology, Nicholas Rosemarino
Theses and Dissertations
Historically, the field of Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology has relied on the Big 5 taxonomy of personality. The purpose of this study was to examine the value of a Jungian conception of extraversion in the context of the relationship between the physical work environment and person-environment (PE) fit. The MBTI and the NEO-IPIP, representing a Jungian and a taxonomic conception of personality, respectively, were hypothesized to predict the within-person relationship between extraverted environment and PE fit. PE fit was hypothesized to predict perceived satisfaction and perceived performance. To examine these hypotheses, 110 participants were recruited from Mturk and responded to 18 …

A Bibliometric Analysis Of The Proceedings Of The Association For Educational Communications And Technology (Aect) For The 1979-2009 Period, Vandy L. Pacetti-Donelson
Theses and Dissertations
Traditional journal analysis for the identification of disciplines is limited in developing areas of study due to the lack of journals specific to that area of study. Identifying knowledge domains worthy of study for the identification of developing disciplines has been difficult.
Conferences are at the forefront of building knowledge in scientific communities, particularly in technology related sectors, but less than 10% of conference proceedings are available in conventional knowledge databases. As a result, conference proceedings as a previously unconsidered knowledge domain, may provide the knowledge domain worthy of analysis to identify developmental and incremental change within developing areas of …

E Vërteta Dhe Vërtetësia Në Portalet “On-Line” (Gazeta Express), Ajda Shukriu
Theses and Dissertations
Theses and Dissertations
Roli I Mesazhit Të Be-Së Në Qëndrimet E Njerëzve Ndaj Të Drejtave Të Grave: Rasti I Shqipërisëroli I Mesazhit Të Be-Së Në Qëndrimet E Njerëzve Ndaj Të Drejtave Të Grave: Rasti I Shqipërisë, Erblin Salihu
Theses and Dissertations
Ne …

Roli I Financave Publike Në Zgjedhjet Elektorale Në Periudhën E Pas Luftës Në Kosovë, Gresa Konjufca
Theses and Dissertations

Theses and Dissertations
Murui is a Witotoan language spoken in Colombia and Peru. This thesis focuses on alternations of voiced and voiceless alveolar and velar stops in Murui that occur at some morpheme boundaries in verbs. The alternations of the voiced and voiceless alveolar stops occur in the active indicative suffix allomorphs [‐dɯ] ~ [‐tɯ] ~ [‐d] ~ [‐t] and the alternations of the voiced and voiceless velar stops occur in the passive indicative suffix allomorphs [‐ka] ~ [‐ɡa]. These stops may also become voiced or voiceless when other suffixes are present in the verb. I focus my analysis on the inflectional morphology …
Tone In Acatlán Mixtec Nouns, Esteban I. Méndez-Hord
Tone In Acatlán Mixtec Nouns, Esteban I. Méndez-Hord
Theses and Dissertations
Varieties of Mixtec (an Oto-Manguean language group spoken in southern Mexico) have often been analyzed as having a three-way tonal distinction: Low, Mid and High. I present evidence from original research on simple, alienable nouns, that only two lexical tones, /H/ (corresponding to the traditional Mid tone) and /L/, where some H tones are floating, are needed to describe noun roots in Acatlán Mixtec. In essence, the extra-H tone (corresponding to the traditional Hi tone) only occurs in derived environments, which involve the interaction of tones from two or more morphemes. The bulk of the analysis uses H and L …

Language serves as a mechanism through which children are able to interact and communicate with their others. Thus, when children do not produce language at a typical pace, there may be cause for concern. The primary purpose of the current study was to examine the language abilities of children displaying various forms of social withdrawal and children engaging in subtypes of aggression. Participants came from the Brigham Young University Child Laboratory (N = 141; Mage = 4.57; 53% female) and were observed and teachers and parents completed reports on children's behaviors and demographics. Results revealed reticent and solitary-passive children to …
Idioms Or Open Choice? A Corpus Based Analysis, Kaitlyn Alayne Vanwagoner
Idioms Or Open Choice? A Corpus Based Analysis, Kaitlyn Alayne Vanwagoner
Theses and Dissertations
The ambiguous nature of idioms has been a persistent challenge for English language learners and researches alike. Problematic issues include identifying which idioms are most pertinent for study, and the question of how frequently idiom forms found in dictionaries and other canonized resources actually function as idioms in real language use. This study differentiates between idiom forms used idiomatically (idiom-principle) versus literally (open-choice principle), and provides quantitative data to assess this difference. The data was obtained through a corpus analysis of 1,000 randomly-selected idioms in 10,000 randomly-selected contexts (10 contexts per idiom), and revealed that the majority of idiom forms …

Multilingual Trends In Five London Boroughs: A Linguistic Landscape Approach, Shayla Ann Johnson
Theses and Dissertations
Although multilingualism has been investigated in London, no studies have addressed the multilingual linguistic landscape of this linguistically diverse globalized mega-city. In addition, no previous research has addressed the linguistic impacts of colonialism on the colonizer with respect to signage in the linguistic landscape. With increasing rates of immigration and globalization in London, it is advantageous to fully document and research the nature of the linguistic landscape in order to create a baseline for future comparison. Consequently, aspects of the linguistic landscape of five London boroughs were collected and analyzed in terms of 2,062 signage items. The study noted multilingual …

The Effectiveness Of Utilizing The Treatment Support Measure For Treatment Planning In Youth Mental Health Services, Adam D. Garland
Theses and Dissertations
The use of treatment support tools to enhance client outcomes is not well understood in the youth treatment literature. Adult outcome researchers have found that the use of Clinical Support Tools (CST) leads to improved outcomes with clients identified as at risk for treatment failure. However, the American Psychological Association (APA) has noted that understanding important client factors that influence treatment is critical during the clinical formulation and treatment planning phase of therapy. No studies to date have evaluated the effectiveness of utilizing a CST as a treatment planning tool with youth clients. The purpose of this study was to …

The Smuggler Journals: Transgressing And Policing The Border In The Rio Grande Valley, Lupe Alberto Flores
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis summarizes recent human smuggling scholarship and provides ethnographic insights into migrant smuggling in a border zone that is my home. Through exploring my own experiences and observations of smuggling and militarized border policing, and those of other interlocutors in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, I advance nuanced understandings of the symbiotic processes of irregular migration and of the people who brokerage a great deal of these journeys across militarized borders. I analyze fieldnotes that highlight the quotidian realms in which gender and power play out when irregular migration takes place and argue that acts of border …

Effective Parental Cooperation And Communication As Protective Factors For Adult Offspring Of Divorce, Damla Til Ogut
Effective Parental Cooperation And Communication As Protective Factors For Adult Offspring Of Divorce, Damla Til Ogut
Theses and Dissertations
Research and society have focused attention on how divorce affects family dynamics for decades. The clinical literature points to significant discrepancies in psychological variables between offspring from divorced versus intact families, suggesting that divorce contributes to negative psychosocial outcomes. Accordingly, investigations have revealed the adverse effects of co-parental conflict and antagonistic communication on divorce offspring’s psychological outcomes. Although parental cooperation and communication are suggested to serve as protective factors, more research is needed, given the current literature’s reliance on measures of psychopathology, yet making conclusions on psychological wellness. Among 244 college students, results indicated that divorce offspring reported lower levels …

Substance Abuse And Other Factors That Influence Recidivism For Mental Health Court Graduates, Justine Maria Swanson
Theses and Dissertations
Mental health courts (MHC) were designed to divert the overwhelming number of individuals with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system from incarceration through specialty court proceedings intended to meet their unique needs. Individuals who have both mental health problems and substance use are at a disadvantage. For them, this combination contributes to more severe mental health symptoms, physical health issues, interpersonal challenges, and legal problems. The co-occurrence of mental illness and substance use is increasing in prevalence within both the community and justice system settings; however, few studies have explored the effectiveness of MHCs for this specific population …
