The purpose of this study was to examine mentally ill substance abusers (MISA's) perception of stigma, and stigma experiences perpetuated by non-mentally ill substance abusers in residential treatment and its association with MISA's level of well being. Stigma related to mental illness has been explored and conceptualized by researchers as having various constructs that affect individuals in diverse ways.

The purpose of this research was to examine the perceptions of parents of different cultures on how to cope with stress in relation to caring for a child with Down syndrome. This study targeted parents that attend Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles (DSALA) support groups. DSALA has support groups all over Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The sample of participants consisted of nine Caucasian, eight Latino, and three multiethnic mothers for a total of twenty.

The experience of stress in the workplace is becoming an increasing concern for employees and organizations alike, as research indicates that consistent exposure to stress is associated with negative physical and psychological reactions such as insomnia, depression and high blood pressure. The purpose of this study is to better understand the attitudes and beliefs about evidence-based practice among masters in social work practitioners (MSWs) and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs). Assessing the attitudes toward evidence-based practice can further the analysis of competent practice and perhaps help determine the extent to which social work is a profession based on research or anecdotal methods. The survey was given to 59 MSWs and LCSWs working in the mental health setting during a staff meeting at Patton State Hospital.

This research study examines the effects of organizational communication, a sub-dimensional construct on employee outcomes. It was proposed that organizational communication as indicated by timelines, reliability, and comprehensiveness of communication would predict the employee outcomes of intention to leave, job insecurity, and organizational cynicism in a negative direction. Participants, representing employees from several customer service organizations in Southern California experiencing orgaizational change, completed a questionaire consisting of multiple measurements in the areas of interest.

This study provided this population the opportunity to tell their stories, their perspectives about domestic violence, their concerns, and their perceived needs, if any. This qualitative study is conducted to investigate how language learners are socialized into the target speech comunity, and also, whether they perceive the shift in personality when using the target language to interact with different social groups in different social contexts. A two-month case study was done to inspect the language socialization process of 10 out of 14 NNES (non-native English speaking) students enrolled in Level Three Composition Class in IEP (Intensive English Program) at CSUSB in 2006 Summary. The data for this current study was collected through audio taping, interviews, and the journals of the student participants.

For the purpose of this thesis, the main focus of the feminist rhetorical criticism method was specifically linked to gender-related power inequities. This method was especially appropriate for the analysis of how film violence is used as a feminist rhetorical strategy in the Kill Bill films. This thesis is more closely aligned with challenging rhetorical standards as it sought to identify feminist counter positions of rhetoric in film violence.

The purpose of this study is to examine three factors relating to drug arrests using secondary data analysis. First, ethnic characteristics of a dealer were analyzed according to the location from where they sold their product. Next, possible factors associated with a police officer using force at the time of a drug arrest were also analyzed.
