Studies claim that women are significantly more at risk than men to suffer from this disorder and may experience stronger symptoms. Previous research has found that victims of childhood abuse such as sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect are more at risk for developing Borderline Personality Disorder as adults, particularly when abuse is paired with genetic susceptibility. Surveys have shown that Asian-Americans are the least likely of all racial groups to identify as LGBT. South Asians in the United States are especially unlikely to be “out.” However, little research has been conducted to explain this underrepresentation. In this thesis, I conduct a qualitative analysis of texts about a specific group of lesbian, gay, bisexual/pansexual, and queer (LGBQ) South Asian-Americans—namely Bangladeshi-, Indian-, and Pakistani-Americans, or desis. Organizations that have benefitted from the commission of federal crimes committed by their employees may be sentenced to federal criminal penalties. Two of these potential penalties include probation and the requirement to implement a corporate monitor. The federal guidelines provide suggestions for sentencing probation that echo the theoretical focal concern of blameworthiness. This research used eight years of United States Sentencing Commission data covering 2011 to 2018 (n= 1,224) to examine if organizations were being sentenced to probation and monitoring consistent with the federal guidelines and focal concern of blameworthiness. This dissertation is an articles-based, mixed methods study that analyzes Black middle-class neighborhood attainment in Louisville. Racialized social structure theory is the theoretical framework that is employed to make sense of the adverse positionality of Black middle-class neighborhoods. Racialized social structure theory posits that individuals are placed in racial categories that are hierarchically arranged, which, at the neighborhood level, translates to White and Black householders advancing their material interests in competing ways. These competing interests are asymmetrical in terms of power relations, which means that the neighborhood choices of the Black middle-class are constrained by the routinized ways that the …

Over two-thirds of the United States population have overweight or obese (OW/OB) weight statuses due in large part to an obesogenic environment that encourages unhealthful weight related behaviors. The obesogenic environment appears to place a larger burden on women with low incomes as they experience OW/OB disproportionately compared to other groups. Studies seeking to understand the impact of the obesogenic environment on this population have been deficit focused, largely examining environmental risk factors for OW/OB and ignoring protective factors against it. Ecological niche models (ENMs) were created for White-tailed and Black-tailed prairie dogs and projected into the Last Interglacial (LI), the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), and mid-Holocene (mid-H) to discern possible past suitable habitat for both species. Additionally, ENMs were projected into the future year 2070 representative concentration pathways (RCPs) 2.6 and 8.5 to discern how climate change may affect future habitat suitability. Kernel density estimations, minimum convex polygons, and median distribution centers of White-tailed and Black-tailed occurrence records were examined between time-periods to discern the effects of anthropogenic westward expansion on both species’ distributions. The purpose of the following descriptive pre and post study was to collect and analyze data to determine if there are benefits to alternative therapies on adult mental health. Three types of alternative therapies were studied: aromatherapy, recreation therapy, and yoga. A literature review was conducted and pre and post questionnaires were administered. Frequencies and averages were run which showed that participants were mostly Caucasian, with an average age of 31 years and most diagnosed with depression and anxiety. The purpose of the following replication study was to collect and analyze data regarding demographic, psychological, and environmental factors that are associated with adolescent readmission. A literature review was conducted, as well as a manual chart review of 16 adolescent patients from May 2019 to January 2020. Cover-copy-compare (CCC) is an evidence-based math intervention strategy that can be used to help to build math fact accuracy and fluency. This literature review aims to examine different modifications of CCC, the effectiveness of CCC in helping students with disabilities, and identifying targeted computational skills. Discussion will also focus on the generalizability of CCC. After using predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, thirty-nine articles were identified as relevant to this study. The results indicate that CCC demonstrated efficacy among students with Specific Learning Disability (SLD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder, and emotional and behavioral disorders. This study was designed to examine the effects of ego depletion and deception on thin slicing. Experiment 1 examined whether participants could identify a video that contained a lie at an accuracy rate better-than-chance. Fifty-five percent of participants selected the deception video, which provided support that the videos were distinguishable. Experiment 2 assessed whether ego depletion and deception could decrease thin-slicing accuracy. The main effect of deception on deception accuracy was significant, such that participants in the deception condition had lower deception accuracy than participants in the no-deception condition.
