Push-Pull Theoretical Propositions Of Migration: A Case Study Of Internal Migration In The Republic Of Panama, Olmedo Quiros
Push-Pull Theoretical Propositions Of Migration: A Case Study Of Internal Migration In The Republic Of Panama, Olmedo Quiros
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Historically, as a consequence of the transit function of Panama's economy and the concentration of its economic activities in one specific geographic area, three societal processes have become strongly interrelated. First, economic growth has been concentrated in the tertiary sector. Second, an imbalance has occurred in the extent to which each economic sector generates and can absorb the Panamanian labor force. Third, population has shifted to the urban and metropolitan Province of Panama as a result of strong rural to urban migration, generating a disproportionate population distribution.
In this study, migration flows in Panama and the changes in economic and …

Country Music In The Northeast: Two Careers, Joseph Ruff
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Although country music and its antecedents have received attention primarily as cultural phenomena of the South, the past twenty years have witnessed a growing scholarly interest in the interplay between commercial country music, vernacular components. and performers within a regional context. The commercial product which has now attained worldwide appeal undoubtedly sustains a significant relationship to the folkways and regional identity of the South; nonetheless, performers and vernacular styles from other areas of the country have contributed to the development of country music. Most important. many areas outside of the South maintain local traditions of country music entertainment. In this …

The Acute Effect Of Aerobic Exercise On Anxiety Levels, Toni Devolder
The Acute Effect Of Aerobic Exercise On Anxiety Levels, Toni Devolder
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The present study sought to determine whether or not state anxiety levels were significantly reduced when individuals participated in aerobic dance workouts of 15 minutes and 30 minutes. Undergraduate university students and faculty enrolled in an aerobic dance class were volunteers in this study. As hypothesized, subjects in the aerobic dance classes did reduce anxiety acutely following both their 15 minute and 30 minute workout as assessed by the STAI (Y-Form State Anxiety). Thus, results indicate that state anxiety may be reduced through aerobic dance with similar situations and individuals. In addition, the study also looked at the posttest state …

The researcher examined the relationship between the motor scales of the Learning Accomplishment Profile-Diagnostic Revised Edition (LAP-D) and the Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning-Revised (DIAL-R) motor scales. Specifically, the strength of the relationship and the consistency of identification between the motor scales of these two measures were examined. The sample consisted of 29 children ages 38-67 months selected from the LAP-D normative sample which was stratified for gender and race. Children were administered tests in random order. Inhibition, Distraction & The Aging Frontal Lobe, Robert West
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
lbeories in both the fields of ognstsvc aging and human neuropbychology have suggested that an impairment in the ability of an individual to inhibit irrelevant or distracting information either present in the environment or generated within the individual can ha‘ e detrimental effects on performance on a wide variety of cognitive tasks including text processing, inference formation, planning, and selective attention A number of researchers have attributed this increased distractibility in both clinical populations and health\ older individuals to a decline in or impairment of the functioning of the frontal lobes The present study extends findings suggesting a decline in …

The Relationship Of The Authoritarian Personality & Social Identity Theory, James Lindsey
The Relationship Of The Authoritarian Personality & Social Identity Theory, James Lindsey
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Since social identity theory and authoritarian personality theory have been presented as opposing theories of discrimination, the present experiment explored whether authoritarianism could explain discrimination in social identity theory's minimal group paradigm. High, high average, low average, and low authoritarians were given three measures of in-group favoritism in minimal groups (two point -distribution tasks and a group -rating task). An authoritarianism main effect and an authoritarianism by order interaction on the point -distribution tasks indicated that authoritarianism significantly enhanced discrimination, but only when these tasks followed the group-rating measure. This interaction indicates that authoritarianism has greater influence on discrimination as …
