Weighting Landsat Digital Data According To Land Cover Emissivity For Surface Temperature Mapping, Thomas Polanski Apr 1995

Weighting Landsat Digital Data According To Land Cover Emissivity For Surface Temperature Mapping, Thomas Polanski

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Regional urban planning and natural resource management problems require efficient and accurate data concerning land use/land cover and temperature gradients for informed decision making. Remotely-sensed data provide a method for acquiring such information in a dependable and efficient manner. Regular data acquisition and a synoptic view make the Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) an excellent resource for entities needing land cover and surface temperature information. Landsat 5 TM digital data (1985) are used to classify land cover in the vicinity of New Orleans, the study area encompassing approximately 185 square kilometers. The maximum likelihood, minimum distance to means, and the parallelepiped …

The Useful Field Of View Of Reading Disabled Children, Jerri Edwards Apr 1995

The Useful Field Of View Of Reading Disabled Children, Jerri Edwards

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

Recent research suggests that some reading disabled children process visual information differently due to a transient system or magnocellular pathway deficit. In light of this hypothesis, the present study represents an investigation of the visual processing abilities of both good and poor readers using a new technique which taps several aspects of transient visual input by presenting brief masked targets with varying attentional demand. Sixteen subjects' reading capabilities were assessed by the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test-Revised. The subjects were classified as reading disabled if they had a two or more year lag in reading skill (n=7) or as non-reading disabled …

The Prenatal Use Of Crack Cocaine: How It Affects Children And How Schools Can Respond, Michelle Kirkham Mar 1995

The Prenatal Use Of Crack Cocaine: How It Affects Children And How Schools Can Respond, Michelle Kirkham

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Crack made its debut in the United States during the late 1980's. No one thought about the enormous impact that one illegal drug could have, but crack has dramatically increased the number of drug addictions in this country. Even more traumatic is that there are many children suffering today from the effects of the crack that their mothers used while pregnant. The oldest crack-exposed children are now approaching school-age. A concern for the educators of our country is that disagreements exist concerning what abilities these children do or do not possess and what can or can not be done for …
