Privacy Or Police Powers, Raegan Gibson
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Privacy is a simple value shared by most people, but when that value is placed in the context of a right it, becomes more complex. The right to privacy has been recognized and expanded in the United States throughout history. This right is not absolute, however, and is in constant conflict with the state police powers. The Courts have become the mediator in this battle. This paper explores the battle between privacy rights and …

Being a parent of a child with autism and/or a developmental disorder may cause profound effects on the parents' relationships with others (Trepagnier, 1999). This qualitative study describes how a diagnosis of autism and/or a developmental disorder for a child affects the parent's relationships with others. The goal is to help nurses determine appropriate interventions for these clients. Following Human Subjects Review Board approval, a researcher-developed questionnaire was completed by a convenience sample of six parents known to the researcher and known to have a child with autism and/or a developmental disorder. Course Content Of Sociology Of Aging And Social Gerontology Syllabi: Interdisciplinary Relations, Paula Newby
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The United States is undergoing a major increase in a segment of the population we socially define and understand as aged. By the year 2030 approximately one in every five Americans will be 65 years or older. Because the concept of age is encompassed in our everyday world of social reality, it is a subject matter for the discipline of sociology. Aging is also recognized as a subject matter for courses in social gerontology, which incorporates a multidisciplinary approach with material from social, psychological, and biological areas. This research endeavor constitutes a content analysis of course syllabi found in the …

At The Crossroads Commercial Music And Community Experience The Quonset Auditorium - A Roadhouse On The Dixie Highway, Amber Ridington
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
This study of the Quonset Auditorium, one roadhouse among many on the regular tour route of R&B, gospel and country musicians in the post-World War II era (1947- 1959), illustrates the important role of roadhouses during a time of growth and change in popular music. It situates memories and experiences from the Quonset Auditorium in relation to regional and national movements of the day such as highway development, commercial and popular music, and the civil rights movement. With hindsight, we can see that the Quonset Auditorium stood at a crossroads as regards these social and technological movements of the post-WW …
