A frequently heard complaint about One Search from the user experience end is that it is "complicated" or "over-whelming," but it has its positive points, too. The key is in teaching patrons who may have never had any experience outside of Google and traditional OPACs how to use it. This presentation covers best practices on how to teach One Search to new users in a thoughtful, less stressful manner using the very tools inherent in the discovery system - and how the thought and practice of teaching searches in One Search differs from the traditional OPAC.

While on Voyager, the University of Kentucky had a committee dedicated to handling releases and policies for the system. During our migration to Alma and Primo we moved to taskforces to manage the migration, putting that committee on hold. Post-migration, we revived the ILS Committee and updated the charge to handle Alma/Primo releases and policies. This presentation will briefly discuss the procedures we’re using to manage Alma and Primo releases, training, set policies, and communicate with library staff post-migration. We’d like to leave time for audience participation to find out how others are managing these processes at their institutions.

There is limited research on the perceptions of faculty who teach branch campus students. Exploratory in nature, this qualitative study explored the branch campus teaching experiences of a particular subset of educators – those who teach in social work education programs. The paper will discuss social work faculty members’ perspectives about the advantages and challenges of teaching branch campus students. Eighty-one social work educators from twenty-six states completed an online survey developed by the researchers. The survey included qualitative questions that explored both resident and non-resident faculty members’ perceptions regarding the advantages and disadvantages of teaching branch campus students. The purpose of my study is to examine the molecular evolution of the HEXA gene and its implications to Tay-Sachs disease. Also, this study intends to compare and contrast the mutations that occur within the various populations at high-risk of developing this disease. My central concept is population genetics in which populations are compared among each other to identify patterns or possible causes of a particular phenomenon. Cultivating Community: Experiences Of African Refugee Gardeners, Elizabeth Willenbrink

Past and present, community gardening has been used as a response to poverty, a way to supplement healthy foods, and a mechanism for community involvement. For thirteen refugee families living at the Housing Authority of Bowling Green, community gardening has become a way to recreate their traditional cult ure. Based on data collected through interviews during the summer of 2016, these refugee s identified gardening as a buffer against food insecurity, providing access to both healthy a nd culturally appropriate foods. As the national climate and attitudes toward local organic food progressed in the United States, farmers markets, school and community gardens, and campaigns to increase vegetable consumption among children and adolescents skyrocketed. Unfortunately, many communities are beginning to realize disparities exist in poverty-stricken neighborhoods in term of access to fresh produce, education, and food programs This narrative follows a community garden project over three years at the Boys & Girls Club in a semi-rural city in Kentucky.
