Bryant, Louisville, Kentucky, regarding a search for photographs in his possession of a Night Rider raid in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Includes a photocopy of one, an image of an officer posing in a captured Night Rider uniform, made from a glass plate negative held by the Department of Library Special Collections, WKU.

Lasting Experiences: Taking Galleries From Glass Cases To Online Access Repositories, Joseph J. Shankweiler, Todd J. Seguin

This chapter outlines the process of creating a permanent online presence from a curated gallery exhibition. Creating an open access version of the exhibition on an institution’s repository preserves the experience for the future and extends its engagement to a growing online community of students, interested community members, and others beyond campus. Through the use of video and audio, as well as images and documents, we strive to create an equally engaging experience for those who are unable to attend the original installation in person. Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 1127. Student paper titled “The Art of Lace Making” in which Darlene Pendleton details the challenges and intricacies of braiding, lace making, knotting, and tatting. Pendleton, a student in the Textiles, Clothing, and Merchandising program at WKU, collected her data from two home economics teachers and one university instructor. The paper contains biographies of each informant, illustrations of patterns and designs, and samples of handiwork.

Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 1125. Student paper titled “Wine-Making (Zymurgy)” in which Pat Murphy details the process of producing homemade wine. Murphy’s informants, which include close family members and friends, describe the growing and harvesting of grapes and blackberries, the fermentation period, ingredients, bottling, and distribution. The paper also includes interview transcripts.

Finding aid only for Folklife Archives Project 1124. Student paper titled “The ‘Lore’ of Autograph Book Verses” in which Paulette Williams collects numerous inscriptions, or “sentiments,” written in albums spanning across several decades. Williams gathered verses from books belonging to her mother and two local beauticians. The inscriptions are divided into several basic categories.

True’s informants include her grandmother, Delora True, and her boyfriend’s mother, Frances Chaney. Additional information regarding the uses of lye soap, necessary ingredients, and tools of the trade are also included. Black and white photographs of the process are provided as well.

Integrating Social Justice Content Into Social Work Education: Making The Abstract Concrete, Simon Funge, Rashida Crutchfield, Lisa Jennings

Social Work Faculty Publications

A national survey of social work educators teaching in CSWE-accredited social work education programs in the U.S. was conducted to explore their perceptions about integrating social justice content into their teaching. A content analysis of written commentary provided by 139 educators revealed four key areas relevant to their efforts: (a) the effect of program mission and integration, (b) the effect of faculty preparation and engagement, (c) the effect of students’ positionality, and (d) the challenge of connecting an abstract concept to concrete practices.
