Communication Apprehension In Problem-Solving Dyads, James Harris
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of communication apprehension and sex on task efficiency, satisfaction, liking, and trust following a dyadic problem-solving situation. The experimental design was a h x 3 analysis of variance determined by the level of communication apprehension (high-low) and by the sex of the dyads (male-male, male-female, female-female). The results indicated that the high communication apprehensive dyads had significantly less task efficiency, less satisfaction, less liking, and less trust than the low apprehensive dyads. Further, male-male dyads had significantly more satisfaction and significantly less trust than the female-female dyads.

A Folkloristic Approach To Storytelling Performances By A Contemporary Librarian, Victoria Middleswarth
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The subject of this study is Thelma Freeman, the children's librarian at the Bowling Green Public Library. Mrs. Freeman has worked for the library for fourteen years, beginning in 1964 as a bookmobile driver and later transferring into the library building as children's librarian. The story hour on which this study centers was instituted in 1967 when Mrs. Freeman became the Bowling Green Library's first children's librarian. Although she probably acquired her storytelling art through observation and adoption of her mother's storytelling technique and through experience with her children and grandchildren, Mrs. Freeman also took an undergraduate-level library science course …

Twenty-six male tennis team members competed against the same player under match-like conditions and were rated by a tennis expert according to their style of play. The instrument used to rate the subjects was the Expert's Rating Scale, a nine point scale indicating a tennis player's aggressive intentions. A Copy of Form AA of the Personality Research Form was completed by each subject prior to the expert's observation. The Interpretive-Rhetorical Situation: A Framework For Post Performance Analysis Of Interpretation, John Korinek
The Interpretive-Rhetorical Situation: A Framework For Post Performance Analysis Of Interpretation, John Korinek
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The interpretive-rhetorical situation was formulated by blending Lloyd Bitzer's concepts of the rhetorical situation with contemporary interpretation theory. interpretation is momentary, the foundation established as The concept of as a suasory speech act in the sense that it transactional, and intentional, established for theory formation. The key concept an application for the interpretive-rhetorical situation was that it formed a cohesive framework for guiding post performance aspects of interpretation, especially performance criticism and experimental research. An experimental study was conducted, testing the newly formed breakdown of the traditional interpretation elements of writer, reader, and audience into the constituents of exigency, audience …

Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune
Recreation Needs Of Pre-Adolescent Girls In Selected Public Schools, Michael Aune
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
There was a need to determine the recreation needs of girls in the pre-adolescent age range of nine through fourteen years old so that municipal recreation professionals may program activities to meet the desires of this specific population. In order to do this, a testing instrument was developed. The test, a recreation preference schedule, used closed questions exclusively, unlike many of the available checklist surveys. The recreation preference schedule was modeled after the Edwards Personal Preference Schedule that was used in counseling. The new test, containing one hundred questions, utilized ten recreation activity categories. It was checked for reliability and …
The Relationship Between Number Of Sessions And Client-Judged Outcome, Jay Athy
The Relationship Between Number Of Sessions And Client-Judged Outcome, Jay Athy
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Outpatient clients from a community mental health center were surveyed by questionnaire to examine the relationship between number of therapy sessions attended and client-judgments of therapeutic outcome. The results indicated that client-judgments of therapeutic benefit tended to be independent of length of therapy when the client-judgement is a global assessment of therapeutic benefit. Controls for mode of therapy, initial diagnosis, type of referral, and status of case yielded similar findings. The nature of these relationships was nonlinear with the possible existence of different zones of sessions that account for varying degrees of client-perceived success. It also appeared that clients evaluated …
Metraplan: An Urban Transportation Simulation Game, Chester Ballard
Metraplan: An Urban Transportation Simulation Game, Chester Ballard
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Anyone who has traveled through a large metropolitan area is aware of the myriad of transportation problems facing urban America today. Urban transportation problems are highly visible and touch the lives of nearly every resident. Advanced technology strives to meet the increasing demand for more and better transportation, but instead if often creates more complex urban transportation problems than those it intended to solve. Although technological answers have, at times, contributed to the problem, the true source of the problem is people – their attitudes and demands.
During the fifties and early sixties it was believed that we could build …

An Examination Of Commitment To Scholarly Openness & Religious Belief Among Academicians, Jim Alsdurf
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The relations between faculty religiosity, changes in reliaious beliefs, and commitment to scholarly openness were examined through a survey of 257 faculty at three universities. A new measure of scholarly openness was developed for this study because of ambiguities in previous indirect and attitudinal measures. Indicators Of Anxiety On Bender Records: A Correlational Study, Kevin Dooley
Indicators Of Anxiety On Bender Records: A Correlational Study, Kevin Dooley
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Since the Bender's growth in popularity as a tool for assessing organic brain damage, other factors have been shown to influence the accuracy of design reproductions. Mental deficiency, cultural background, early age and :ex are among those factors. Attempts to demonstrate the effect: of personality traits have been few, but supportive. Research into the influence of personality on Bender performance has largely been group comparison designs. The degree of overlap found among groups has reduced the degree of confidence with which the results can be applied to individual performance:. The present study used a correlational approach to determine how validly …

The Relationship Between Sensation Seeking & Conformity, Shirley Rabuck
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Two hundred male, Introductory Psychology students were tested using the A:L and SSS. Forty-two students were then selected using approximately the upper, lower, and middle 7'7 of the distribution of scores on the total SSS as cut-of: points. The Asch Conformity Test (ASCII) was then administered to each of those 42 subjects. It was hypothesized that high sensation seekers (based on total scale score, SSS) would behave in a nonconforming manner and that low sensation seekers would more readily conform to social pressures as measured by the ASCH. It was also hypothesized that when the effects of dominance and autonomy …

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Oral recollections concerning dating, courtship, marriage and related attitudes were collected from a single informant, Mrs. Blanche Story of Butte, Nebraska. Through in-depth questioning during twelve tape-recorded interview sessions, value- and attitude-oriented accounts were secured for the years 1885 to 1910, the late frontier period in northcentral Nebraska. These detailed reminiscences focus on common life experiences related to interpersonal relationships and the institutions related to them, resulting in a personal or folk history. The single greatest problem in research was the lack of documentation for the attitudinal content of the texts. Corroboration of both specific information and broad patterns of …
