Goal setting in the physical education classroom can be a successful technique to enhance motivation, increase effort, and improve performance. A critical component of effective goal setting is providing feedback. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to examine the influence of teacher-initiated reminders of the goal on the attainment of self-set aerobic goals in physical education classes. This study was quasi-experimental in nature and used a nonrandomized pretest-posttest, control group design to carry out the procedures. This thesis addresses the hidden and invisible aspects of power in an effort to understand the effects these types of power have on the individuals who are unaware of their presence. It then questions if this power is hidden and invisible, how is effective resistance possible? I focus on the research and conceptions of a few political theorists including Steven Lukes, John Gaventa, and Michel Foucault that form the basis for much of the work on power. The purpose of this research was to examine the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act through an analysis of the bill, investigation of current publications by Iowa health care organizations, and ethnographic interviews to address the guiding research question of how the Affordable Care Act will affect Critical Access Hospitals in Iowa. The demands of work, added to the already high demands of college, may result in negative effects on the individual. However, some aspects of working may lead to positive effects. Previous research has largely focused on the effects of job demands on school performance and other outcomes in adolescents. This thesis will analyze the recent financial crisis, attempting to find and explain sources that caused the crisis, which includes monetary excesses, mortgage-backed securities, the August 2007 bank panic, credit default swaps, and other causes. It will link together events and activities to provide a complete picture. Additionally, this thesis will compare financial leverage with Gross Domestic Product to determine if increases in financial leverage predate financial crises. The Built Environment’S Effect On Obesity In The United States, Charlie Cowell

Obesity is a growing concern in the United States. Obesity results from eating more calories than one’s body can use as energy per day. To lose weight one must either eat fewer calories or use more energy. Some suggest that certain public amenities may encourage healthy lifestyles. Others suggest public amenities have no effect on personal activity levels. This paper looks at the influence the built environment has on obesity rates in U.S. cities. An Ordinary Least Squares regression model is used and finds that significant characteristics of the built environment include acres of parkland, number of recreation facilities, commute …

Determinants Of Economic Growth In Latin America, Kristi Philips

This paper aims to identify the factors that are most important in promoting economic growth in Latin America. It uses panel data for 17 countries over a 15-year 2 period. Low levels of corruption, high levels of internet access, low levels of FDI, and high net energy imports are statistically significant in increasing GDP per capita in Latin America. Surprisingly, education is found to be statistically insignificant for economic growth.

There are hundreds of MBA programs in the United States and abroad graduating thousands of MBAs each year. An MBA is thought to be a very marketable degree with broad applications and a high starting salary. There are many factors that affect the salaries of MBA graduates and the reported starting salary of graduates varies substantially among programs. What factors influence these differences? I investigate the specific determinants of business school graduates’ salaries. The rank or selectivity of an MBA program is the most important factor that determines an MBA graduate’s starting salary.

Current Account Imbalances Within The Eurozone, Tom Augspurger

Widening Current Account imbalances were a key feature of the run-up to the global financial crisis. Within the European Monetary Union, large surpluses and deficits emerged among member countries. The imbalances were initially viewed as evidence of the success of the Euro, but they continued to grow and contributed to the recent financial crisis. The problem of imbalances is still with us today and could hamper future growth in the deficit countries.

An Examination Of Law School Employment Data, Trevor Boeckmann

Major Themes in Economics

This paper examines the employment prospects for students graduating from law school. I find that student expectations are unrealistically high and are the result of deceptive practices by law schools who are attempting to maximize their score in the U.S. News and World Report ranking system. I examine possible solutions to this problem, and propose increasing transparency as the best option. This paper highlights the problems and limitations in using data.

As the government documents librarian, I was appointed to an ad hoc library task force in the spring of 2010. The task force was to determine if our library should remain in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) as a selective depository. Ultimately, the group recommended that we remain in the FDLP, and the library administration accepted our recommendations. The recommendations included shifting from tangible government documents towards electronic documents wherever possible. However, tangible government documents of significant historical and/or research value were to be retained. In addition, a special weeding project to reduce the size of the current collection …

Despite the fact that many birds are believed to be declining as a result of habitat loss and elimination of historic disturbance regimes, few studies have explored how restoration and management of mixed grassland and woodland systems influence bird communities. In this study, we tested whether habitat size, habitat type, and use of prescribed fire as a management tool affected the species richness and composition of bird communities sampled from 22 restored grassland and woodland sites within Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt (Polk County, Iowa). Flood Frequency Estimation By Neyman-Scott Rectangular Pulse Rainfall Model And Topmodel, Richard Bernatz

A spatial-temporal Neyman-Scott Rectangular Pulse (NSRP) stochastic rainfall model is developed for seasonal-continuous simulation to project annual discharge probabilities from a relatively small watershed, the 1395 km2 Upper Iowa River watershed upstream from Decorah, Iowa. NSRP rainfall data is used as rainfall input to TOPMODEL, a conceptual, semidistributed rainfall runoff model, to calculate river discharge at a site common to the United States Geological Survey (USGS) gauging station in Decorah, Iowa. Annual peak flows based on simulated rainfall are used to fit a log-Pearson type III distribution to project 1 %-, 0.2%-, and 0.1 %-annual discharges. These results are compared …
