Application Of The Imb Model To The Reported Intake Of Fruits And Vegetables Of Native American Children, Rachel C. Sinley, Julie A. Albrecht

Journal of Health Disparities Research and Practice

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) model to identify variables that are associated with fruit and vegetable intake among Native American children. A cross-sectional study design was employed with a convenience sample of 92 English-speaking caregivers of Native American children between the ages of 2 and 5 from several tribes representing the Midwest, including Omaha, Santee Sioux, Ponca and Winnebago. Caregivers completed an IMB model survey, fruit and vegetable food frequency questionnaire and demographic survey. Transfer students make up 37.2% of college students in the United States (NSCRC 2015), but often aren’t considered in our design of instruction and outreach programs. They quickly blend in with the rest of the campus upon arrival, potentially causing libraries to fail in serving them appropriately. What services and resources do transfer students need? What knowledge and experiences are they bringing to the university? How can libraries collaborate with on- and off-campus partners?

Chronicling America is a nation-wide project supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress to make historical newspapers available online and full text searchable. Nevada has participated in the project since 2014. Each grant cycle lasts two years and produces 100,000 digitized news pages for online access. Title selection is guided by an Advisory Board to represent each county of Nevada. These newspapers are the first draft of history, show the daily lives, perspectives, and events of the past. Executive Summary

This report analyzes 11 bills introduced during the 79th Session of the Nevada Legislature that proposed to reorganize, reform, and realign various aspects of the state’s higher education system. The analysis reveals the following:

Despite bipartisan support for higher education reform, nearly all of the reform bills failed, including two bills vetoed by Governor Brian Sandoval.

The failure to enact meaningful reform stands in contrast to the implementation of bills appropriating more resources for higher education.

Opposition to reform legislation was strongest among those most invested in legitimizing and perpetuating current arrangements.

Drawing on data from 137 Chinese students who enrolled in a large research university in the Southwest of the United States, this quantitative study examined the relationships between Chinese students’ acculturative stress, English proficiency, social support, and coping strategies. This study utilized a survey method and employed four previously established questionnaires; moreover, the use of these questionnaires was to examine students’ acculturative stress, as it is the dependent variable of this study.

In data analysis, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to compare means and standard deviations of Chinese students’ acculturative stress through students’ demographics and characteristics. …

Partisan Conflict And Income Inequality In The United States: A Nonparametric Causality-In-Quantiles Approach, Mehmet Balcilar, Seyi Saint Akadiri, Rangan Gupta, Stephen M. Miller

This paper examines the predictive power of a partisan conflict on income inequality. Our study contributes to the existing literature by using the newly introduced nonparametric causality-in-quantile testing approach to examine how political polarization in the United States affects several measures of income inequality and distribution overtime. The study uses annual time-series data between the periods 1917–2013. We find evidence in support of a dynamic causal relationship between partisan conflict and income inequality, except at the upper end of the quantiles. Our empirical findings suggest that a reduction in partisan conflict will lead to a reduction in our measures of …
