Science Concepts Taught In Secondary Vocational Agriculture Programs As Perceived By Nebraska Secondary Vocational Agriculture And Science Instructors, Thomas L. Sabata

The study was conducted to identify the science concepts taught in the vocational agriculture curriculum which are the same as science concepts considered necessary in the secondary science curriculum in Nebraska, as perceived by 33 vocational agriculture instructors and science instructors in earth science (24), biology (30), physics (28) and chemistry (28). A mail survey was used to collect data for the study. The survey return rate for the vocational agriculture teachers was 75 percent; while science teacher returns were lower (54.5 to 68.2%). Classroom environmental conditions establish the social climate or atmosphere of a setting. Stern in 1970 stated that student's perceptions of classroom climate or learning environment are useful in predicting achievement. The purpose of this study was to determine if there was an effect between teaching style and student learning style on classroom environment. The population of this study consisted of secondary high schools within 150 miles of Lincoln, Nebraska, which offer vocational agriculture programs. Seven schools elected to participate. The convergent and discriminant validity of the Social Interaction Self-Statement Test (SISST) were evaluated in a sample of men and women awaiting treatment for fear and avoidance of social interactions. Partial correlations revealed that negative, but not positive, self-statement scores were generally related to self-report measures of anxiety and depression. Heart rate and subjective anxiety ratings derived from a behavioral simulation of a personally relevant anxiety-provoking situation were unrelated to SISST scores. However, subjects’ reports of negative thoughts obtained via the thought-listing procedure were related to the SISST negative self-statement scores, suggesting that the negative subscale of the SISST and …

The objective of this study was to investigate whether aesthesiometric threshold changes occur over the course of a workshift in vibration exposed hard rock miners relative to workers unexposed to vibration during the shift. The subjects were 99 miners and 40 smelter workers; four subjects declined to participate and nine were excluded from the analysis because of apparent failure to comprehend the testing procedure. Two point discrimination and depth sense aesthesiometry were conducted at the beginning and at the end of the workshift in all digits of both hands excluding the thumbs. In deciding whether a state law partner is an "employee" under Title VII or the ADEA, the test proposed by this Comment is as follows: (1) Did the partnership agreement create an "expulsion power" in favor of the partnership? If so, a rebuttable presumption exists that the partner is an "employee." (2) Assuming the partner cannot be expelled without cause, is this an "expendable partner?" Could the partnership afford to pay the partner the value of his partnership interest if he decides to leave? If so, a rebuttable presumption arises that the partner is an employee.

The history of the not guilty by reason of insanity (NGRI) defense has been characterized by an extended search for a satisfactory standard. For many years, the M'Naghten test was the standard applied by the majority of courts in the United States. The M'Naghten test has been widely criticized, however, as being too narrow, over-emphasizing the cognitive aspect of personality, and artificially restricting the scope of expert testimony. We estimated nest success of mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), gadwall (A. strepera), blue-winged teal (A. discors), northern shoveler (A. clypeata), and northern pintail (A. acuta) for 5 regions in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota, for 1-3 periods between 1966 and 1984, and for 8 habitat classes. We obtained composite estimates of nest success for regions and periods by weighting each habitat proportional to the number of nest initiations. The distribution of nest initiations was derived from estimates of breeding populations, preferences of species for nesting habitats, and availability of habitats. …

We measured the effect of diet quality on variation in the seasonal pattern of Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) reproduction. Twenty wild-strain hens, consisting of 10 sibling pairs, were maintained in captivity. One sib of each pair was fed an enriched diet, and the other was fed wheat. The wheat diet resulted in reduced clutch size, egg size, laying rate, number of nesting attempts, and total eggs laid. Diet did not affect laying initiation, duration, or the seasonal pattern of change in clutch and egg size with each renest. We believe the variation and pattern observed are adaptations to a …

Zusammenfassung

1. Die Wüstenkröte, Bufo raddei, lebt in der Nähe von Wasserlachen und Lagunen der Flußauen in der Zentralmongolei, wo sie in der Dämmerung erbeutet wurde.

2. Der Fang 1984 erbrachte nur 1- und 2(3)-jährige Tiere, wobei die metrische Entwicklung der Art auf Unterschiede zu Bufo viridis hinweist.

3. Eine Analyse der Variabilität des Grundmusters zeigt dagegen deutliche Parallelen zu Bufo viridis. Arttypische Merkmale sind dabei die dunkelbraunen Fingerspitzen und die Ausbildung eines Rückenstreifens.

Erste Kenntnisse über die Flora der Mongolei stammen aus dem 18. Jh. und der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jh. (MESSERSCHMIDT, BUNGE, MAXIMOVICZ). In der zweiten Hälfte und am Ende des 19. Jh. erbrachten vor allem die Expeditionen der Russischen Geographischen Gesellschaft umfangreiches botanisches Material (POTANIN, KOZLOV). Auch andere Forscher führten ausgedehnte Sammelreisen durcn (KLEMENZ, PALIBIN, SAPOZNIKOV). Selling Nebraska's Water: Water Sales, Transfers And Exports, J. David Aiken

Historically, western states have been free to prohibit water exports, and most states have done so. This changed abruptly in 1982, when the U.S. Supreme Court in its Sporhase decision invalidated Nebraska's groundwater export statute. After Sporhase, states could no longer simply prohibit the export of water, so the likelihood that water could be purchased or appropriated for export increased. In 1987 legislation was introduced to aggressively seek interstate buyers for Nebraska water. In the face of stormy opposition, the legislation was successfully recast as a study of water exports and transfers. The water exports study, however, contained the …

Prison Overcrowding In Nebraska: The Feasibility Of Intensive Supervision Probation, Dennis Hoffman, Vincent J. Webb

This chapter analyzes the magnitude and causes of Nebraska's prison overcrowding problem. Nebraska's response to this problem has been to expand prison capacity and to implement programs to decrease length of stay. Another policy option - reducing prison admissions through intensive supervision probation - is examined in this chapter. Data from Nebraska Parole Board files indicate there is a category of current prison inmates that are not sufficiently dangerous to require imprisonment. Many of these nonviolent offenders with marginal criminal histories could be diverted into intensive probation programs that are more cost·effective than incarceration.

The Importance Of Interstate Highways To Economic Development In Nebraska, David M. Ambrose, Louis G. Pol

This chapter focuses on one aspect of economic growth: the post-construction effect of interstate highways on income and sales expansion. Using data for all Nebraska and Iowa counties, interstate highways are found to have the most positive economic impact on areas with larger populations; small areas are not likely to experience much more than short-term gains. This finding has significant implications for the planned construction of a north-south, four-lane highway in Nebraska. The route of such a highway should be selected only after a careful look at the ability of local areas to capitalize on highway-induced growth impulses.

Taxing and spending decisions made by Nebraska's policy makers have different impacts on Nebraska's metropolitan and nonmetropolitan counties, even though these impacts may be unintended. Furthermore, Nebraska's counties are linked through the operation of state government. Through their fiscal actions policy makers can strengthen these links or cause them to deteriorate. Policy makers should begin to incorporate the geographic dimensions of their decisions into their decision making processes, especially as they are faced with issues concerning property tax relief and rural development. A review of the day care arrangements made by working parents for their preschoolers indicates that the majority use home day care - in the home of a relative, friend, neighbor, or family day care home proprietor. Im Rahmen der Mongolisch-Deutschen Biologischen Expeditionen wurden erste Mikroklimauntersuchungen im Jahre 1973 in ausgewählten Pflanzengesellschaften der Wüste und Halbwüste im $üdgobi-Aimak durchgeführt (HELMECKE u. SCHAMSRAN 1979). Auch von sowjetisfber (BERESNEVA 1974, 1981) und von polnischer Seite (vgl. KLIMEK 1980) liegen mikroklimatologische Untersuchungen für verschiedene Gebiete der MVR vor.
