An Examination Of The Predictors Of Stalking Myth Acceptance And Perpetration, Amber Wallace, Corinne L. Mcnamara

Although interpersonal violence, such as stalking, is prevalent among college students, the factors that predict and contribute to a culture of campus violence are still obscure. Parallel to the established link between rape myth acceptance and rape perpetration, research has emphasized the ways in which stalking myth acceptance, societal attitudes, and false beliefs about stalking, normalize and perpetuate its occurrence (Lippman, 2015; McKeon, McEwan, & Leubbers, 2015). To further understand this dynamic, we examined the relationship between demographic variables, stalking myth acceptance (SMA), and stalking perpetration (SP) in a convenience sample of college students. Pet Attachment And The Social Support That Pets Provide To College Students, Olivia A. Bekker, Suma Mallavarapu

The purpose of this research was to see how the quality of a person’s attachment to their pet affects their perception of the amount of social support they are receiving from that pet. We recruited a sample of 309 undergraduate students who were pet owners. Students were enrolled in a General Psychology course at Kennesaw State University during Spring 2017. Data were collected using SurveyMonkey®. To measure the quality of pet attachment, we used the Lexington Attachment to Pets Scale. To measure perceived social support, we adapted the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. There was a significant relationship between …

With increased online connectivity in the current generation, more non-for-profit organizations are focusing their efforts on producing online marketing appeals. It has, therefore, become necessary to identify the effect some appeals have on different people. The present study seeks to determine whether an organization offering increased recognition will result in a greater willingness to give by people with narcissistic personalities. Additionally, it will determine if “willingness” to give or “amount” given are different between genders or employment status, as prior research suggests. The number of people forced to flee their homeland across the world is increasing at an alarming rate. As a consequence, refugees have become a growing concern among researchers, practitioners, and policy makers. Although much attention has been afforded to refugee studies, the contributions of conflict-induced migrants towards homeland peacebuilding remain underrepresented within the peacebuilding discourse. This study explores the perceptions and understandings of peace and specific peacebuilding activities from the perspective of conflictinduced forced migrants, namely, former refugees from Ethiopia who have resettled in the United States. The Support Needed For Spouses Of Traumatic Brain Injury (Tbi) Survivors: An Exploration Into Resources And Reference Materials, Brigitte Espinet

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is, indeed, an equal opportunity perpetrator. Of the millions of Americans who sustain a TBI each year, at least 230,000 people are hospitalized and survive, and more than 80,000 to 90,000 people experience the onset of long-term disability (“Report to Congress”). However, it would appear that the reference materials and resources available to those needing life guidance post-TBI are not at all commensurate with the incidence of its occurrence. More specifically, it seems the population most overlooked within the world of those affected by TBI is the partners of adult TBI victims.

Women’S Leadership In Oman: An Intersectional And Transnational Perspective, Maia Hallward, Hania Bekdash Muellers
Faculty Articles
Women’s leadership in the Middle East is typically explored along themes related to Islam and social norms that overlook countries’ complex transnational histories. Taking Oman as a case study, we employ the feminist lens of intersectionality to analyze how class, race, and generation differentiate women’s opportunities for leadership. Using interviews conducted with thirty-two women in Oman who have achieved success in variety of fields, this article finds that contrary to expectations in the literature, Islam does not appear to serve as an overarching challenge. Instead, women emphasize factors such as family connections, culture, and domestic responsibilities in shaping positionalities.

In recent years, collaboration between academic libraries and non-academic departments in higher education has emerged as a popular trend in practice and is a frequent topic in contemporary scholarly literature. Recent research suggests that there are at least 180 academic libraries involved in a wide variety of partnerships with non-academic departments at colleges and universities across the United States. Academic libraries have forged collaborative relationships with writing centers, international student services, veterans support departments, and chaplain services, to name a few (Wainright & Davidson, 2017). The evaluation of academic library space and its use is not a new concept within the world of academic libraries. For a number of years, librarians and libraries have been asked to prove their worth by documenting services and use within their physical library buildings. Space within the J.D. Williams Library, the main library at the University of Mississippi, became a concern due to consistent and, for several years, increasing freshman enrollment. Institutional repositories (IRs) have evolved to showcase a wide-variety of authors and types of material. The early years of IR development focused on collecting and presenting faculty research, primarily in the form of research papers. Graduate theses and dissertations soon began to be incorporated into the scope of IR collection policies and have become as common in IRs as faculty research. Undergraduate research, however, appears to be much less common than faculty or graduate work.
