The Relationship Between Personality Factors And Musical Taste, Joe Dean Brower

This study is an attempt to distinguish personality factors which may influence persons in their preferences for a particular kind of music.

It is not the purpose of this study to investigate the personality of individuals who happen to prefer a special type of music. Instead, the study is focused on personality differences which may be found among three groups of people who have indicated a preference for three different types of music.

Reading, a complex psycho-physiological, thought-provoking process if concerned with the communication of ideas from writer to reader (16). In reading, one is not having first-hand experience with human events. Rather, he is having vicarious experiences by interpreting the written record of another person’s experience. Many skills and abilities; i.e., word recognition, drawing of inferences, the organization of ideas, comprehension of meaning, and a host of others, are involved in the reading process. It would be of interest to explore, in greater detail, further possible differences between these two groups, the "high orange" and "low orange." Accordingly, the purpose of this study was to seek possible differences between the two groups with respect to certain more specific personality variables.
