It is commonly recognized that hospitalized children need psychological support and preparation for painful procedures. It is probable that little thought is given by hospital personnel to a similar preparation of the child for non-painful procedures. This study attempted to evaluate the distress incurred by children subjected to non-painful hospital procedures with little or no preparation. The procedure of x-ray was selected as being common and typical. The method used was the descriptive survey. Following the success of Alfred Binet's test of intellectual ability, many tests with many different purposes were developed. Some of these tests are referred to as tests of ability, others seek to establish the subject's typical performance or how he is most likely to act in a given situation. Personality tests fall into this second class. The two general methods of personality are referred to as unstructured and structured techniques. The unstructured method is time-consuming. Response set has been defined by Cronbach (1946) as "any tendency causing a person consistently to give different responses to test items than he would when the same content is presented in a different form. " It has been described by Barnes (1955) as the perseveration of the response "true" on a true-false test or of the neutral response on a yes-no test. Lorge (1937) reported that high self-confidence scores on the Berneuter Personality Inventory correlated .27 with tendencies to circle "yes' on several tests . The circadian quotient, briefly CQ, serves to estimate the prominence of a rhythm with a period of about 24 hours. The CQ may be computed from so-called variance spectrum analysis, among other procedures ( 1) . Computational details and some applications have been discussed earlier (1 , 2). We wish to illustrate herein the use of the CQ for gauging the development of a circadian sleep-wakefulness rhythm in the senior author's first-born child, FAR, also documented in general terms, elsewhere ( 3).

Research of the relationship between orthodoxy and prejudice is not clear. Some studies report those who acknowledge church membership to be less tolerant than those who do not. Other investigators find either slight differences or no differences among the attitudes of members of different religions. Still others find important differences in acceptance of orthodox religious beliefs and attitudes toward minority groups.

This study was an attempt to help determine whether or not a modified Draw-A-Person test has possibilities for development into an adequate dual-purpose group screening device (intellectual and personality assessment) for psychologists working in educational, guidance, and clinical settings.

The modified DAP test used includes drawings of the same sex, opposite sex, and a self drawing. Scoring procedures are similar to Goodenough's method; however, some modifications were necessary as female drawings were scored frequently.

The Parsons, Kansas, Junior High School System, consisting of 615 seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students was used in this project. The students, with the exception …
