A History Of The Milwaukee Sentinel From 1837 To 1900, Helen Elizabeth Schneider May 1937

A History Of The Milwaukee Sentinel From 1837 To 1900, Helen Elizabeth Schneider

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to present a history of the Milwaukee Sentinel from 1837 to 1900. This provides an interesting subject for investigation because the Sentinel, as one of Milwaukee's first papers, kept in step with community progress and so reflects much of the development of this section of the country. Sentinel files reveal that the paper did not confine itself to Milwaukee alone, but took a keen interest in state, national, and to some extent, international affairs.

The purpose of this thesis is to present a history of the Milwaukee Sentinel. Inasmuch as this newspaper is nearing its hundredth birthday, the history will be traced only from 1901, at which time it was purchased by Charles F. Pfister, to the end of 1936.

An attempt will be made to present the general changes effected from time to time in the content, appearance, ownership and management of the Sentinel and its policies, particularly those in the political field.

A Study Of The Editorial Pages Of Wisconsin's Dailies, Don E. Huth

Bachelors’ Theses

With the decidedly marked interest shown in the Presidential ·campaign of 1936, the purpose of this thesis is to study more closely the attitude of the dailies in Wisconsin toward the two major parties -- Democratic and Republican -- through a survey of the editorial pages of each of these newspapers.

There is little question that the election of a president during the 1936 campaign carried considerable weight in the face of the unprecedented publicity that has followed the Democratic administration which began during one of the most severe of depression years--1932. With the outset of the campaigning activities of …
