Based on research carried out at Queen's University, Ontario, this paper argues that one of the principal problems for Native Education in Canada is the unawareness about Aboriginal people in Canada. Through consultation with Aborigial educators and community members, educators and survey design soecialists, the authors designed an awareness survey and delivered it to over 3000 first-year university students. The results of the survey and a discussion of its impact are presented. The results are provocative as are the workds of these students. They performed poorly on the test, failing it on average by over 22%. They performed best on …

Knowledge commercialisation and commodification are important components of universities’ “Third Mission” to contribute to the development of their home regions by strengthening their engagement with the public, private, and third sectors. Entrepreneurship education programmes have tended to develop in parallel to such “entrepreneurial university” initiatives, rather than in intentional alignment with them. This is reflected in the research literature as well, where the analysis of the “entrepreneurial university” and studies of entrepreneurship education have little overlap. Applications using quasi-experimental comparison group designs in regional science and geography have increased substantially over the last three decades, inspired by the work of Andrew Isserman and colleagues in the 1980s and 1990s, robust literatures on quasi-experimental design in fields like education and psychology, a vast program evaluation literature, observational studies methodology in statistics, and the growing interest in experimental and non-experimental (natural) designs in empirical economics. This paper discusses the state of quasi-experimental comparison group research today, with a primary focus on studies in which regions—Census tracts, counties, cities, metropolitan areas, provinces, or states—are the units of analysis. This work aimed at assessing the dynamic of Abuja city’s land cover, Federal Capital Territory Abuja Nigeria. The following objectives were to: identify the characteristics and the spatial distribution of the urban land cover, and estimate the dynamics in the Land cover over a period of 25 years. Reservoirs are Man’s attempt towards water re-distribution from regions/seasons of abundance/surplus to regions/seasons of scarcity. This study focuses on socio-environmental impacts of the Lower Usuma dam in Abuja, on its four surrounding communities. Stratified random sampling technique was employed in the administration of a questionnaire to 200 respondents. Using descriptive statistics and the student t-test for the analysis, the study discovered that: (i) there has been no significant improvement in infrastructure provision by Government; (ii) cases of water-borne diseases are high; (iii) the communities have lost land for cultivation; and, (iv) the communities believe that the resettlement scheme is not …

This study evaluates the impact of urbanization on Meme river catchment of 667,560.5Km2 area in the Lokoja urbanizing area of Kogi State. The emphasis was to examine the rate of urbanization, changes in land-use, and changes in meme river channel. Land-sat satellite imageries of 1987, 2001, 2006 and 2011 were processed to examine how land use change processes affects rate of urbanization and impacted on the stream. Open dumping of waste generated and uncollected is the most common option in waste management schemes from rural areas. Lack of sanitation services or rudimentary waste management systems favored this practice. This paper proposes a method to estimate the amounts of household waste uncontrolled disposed at local administrative unit level (commune) for 2003 and 2010. Based on estimating the amounts of waste generated and uncollected are introduced new indicators in the quantitative analysis taking into account the household waste composition, individual composting of biodegradable waste or recyclable waste from households for a more proper assessment of waste disposed. The paper examines the impact of transportation on the socio-economic development of rural areas in Gwagwalada area Council of the Federal Capital Territory. The study covers about 5 villages in the Area Council. The villages were selected using a systematic sampling technique. About 200 respondents were also selected and administered a set of questionnaire using the systematic sampling technique also. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of the data gathered. The findings of the analysis reveal that (32.1%) of the respondents are farmers. It also shows that 57.3% roads in the study area are earth roads and seasonal. They …

Rural areas of the new EU Member States face serious problems in compliance of EU regulation on waste management. Το παρόν άρθρο επιζητεί την σύντομη παρουσίαση της τουρκικής στρατηγικής κουλτούρας - ή κουλτούρας ασφάλειας - μέσα από την ανάλυση των αντιδράσεων της Τουρκίας απέναντι στις εξεγέρσεις του αραβικού κόσμου. Για την επίτευξη αυτού του σκοπού ορίζεται αρχικά η έννοια «στρατηγική κουλτούρα» και στη συνέχεια εξετάζονται στοιχεία και παράγοντες που επηρέασαν και επηρεάζουν την τουρκική εξωτερική πολιτική, περιφερειακή πολιτική και στρατηγική συμπεριφορά. Το θεωρητικό και ιστορικό πλαίσιο της τουρκικής στρατηγικής κουλτούρας θα εφαρμοστεί στην περίπτωση της πολιτικής της Τουρκίας απέναντι στις αραβικές εξεγέρσεις σε μια προσπάθεια επεξήγησης των κινήσεων της Άγκυρας και των παραγόντων που επηρεάζουν τις στρατηγικές της επιλογές.

The study seeks to find out the reasons for gender discrimination in health care service provision having established that gender discrimination exists in the area. The paper also examines the implications and the impact of this discrimination on the quality of life in the area. The instrument used to generate data for the study was the questionnaire two hundred questionnaire copies were administered by the researchers with the help of the research assistant.
