Far too many adults and children have not had especially pleasant experiences with libraries in the past. The traditional quietness was enough to scare anyone away. Ordinary people didn't exactly feel welcome inside the walls of these "storehouses of wisdom." Today's library has to develop a new image. It must leave the old passive role behind and blossom forth into active participation in the educational process.

The purpose of this study is to select and analyze books of United States history and to make an annotated bibliography for the use of the high school teachers of United States history. I examined several course of study guides, textbooks, periodicals, and books on library curriculum as part of an investigation to determine what library skills were taught at each level. For each area I included the type or information found and then added my own conclusions for that section.

There are several school media centers in the nation today that offer extended service to their students. Extended services are offered by the professional media personnel during hours beyond the regular school day. The extended services may be offered before and after school, evenings, Saturdays, during school vacation periods and also during summer vacation periods.

Stimulus Selection Under Conditions Of Free Choice By Preschool Children At Baseline And After Adaptation, Andrea Lyn Shields

The experiments reported in the present paper may be characterized as belonging to the general area of motivation research referred to as stimulus selection behavior. Stimulus selection behavior includes curiosity, exploratory, and manipulatory activities. Generally, the research in the area attempts to determine the relation between changes in the stimulus and changes in the measures of approach behavior in the subject (s). In this research, approach behavior is apparently unrelated to organic need conditions. The experiments presented in this paper were designed to determine a preschool child's stimulus preference as he entered the experimental setting, and whether that preference could …
