Drop-Out Study, Chemawa Indian School, Terry Farrow, Gordon Oats Jan 1975

Drop-Out Study, Chemawa Indian School, Terry Farrow, Gordon Oats

Dissertations and Theses

Repeated inquiries and statements are made about the number of American Indian students who drop out or are pushed out of school. The Waxes noted that while drop-out rates are difficult to calculate because of a shifting population and absence of centralized, accurate records, current figures indicate that about one-half of those who enter the primary grades drop out before entering high school. Furthermore, only about a third of those entering school actually graduate. A study of Pima and Papago schools revealed much the same trends. Seven percent of the children ages six to eighteen are not enrolled in any …

A Study Of The Classification Systems For Curriculum Laboratories, Maxine M. Wegner

Graduate Research Papers

The State of Iowa, through a bill reorganizing the intermediate county education systems into fifteen intermediate area education agencies providing special education, media, and auxiliary services, has mandated that the media division shall provide a professional library and curriculum laboratory for the area that it serves.

The area media center is not a new concept in Iowa as there are presently sixteen such centers in the state

that provide a variety of services to the schools in their area with a few centers providing curriculum laboratories for the teachers in their area. These sixteen centers 4 became a part of …

The slide-tape series will be used in the sophomore communications classes as an introduction to the I.M.C. and will be followed by an assignment using materials located in the I.M.C. In addition to the slide-tape series, each student will be furnished with a …

The Influence Of Economic And Non-Economic Factors On Decisions To Limit Family Size By Wives' Educational Level In Huntington, West Virginia, Sylvia Lutz Mcroberts Jan 1975

The Influence Of Economic And Non-Economic Factors On Decisions To Limit Family Size By Wives' Educational Level In Huntington, West Virginia, Sylvia Lutz Mcroberts

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The birth rate in the United States has been declining over the past years from a peak reached in 1957. It is apparent that during the past twenty years increasing numbers of couples have made decisions to limit family size; moreover, the decisions could be easily and effectively implemented with use of modern contraceptive methods. Tubal ligations and vasecetomy have further served to implement decisions to end fertility permanently for millions of couples. In recent years, legal abortion has extended the decision period beyond the point of conception.

Cultural Influence On The Educational Aspiration And Attitude Of Selected Chinese High School Students In Stockton, California, Eva Liang Jan 1975

Cultural Influence On The Educational Aspiration And Attitude Of Selected Chinese High School Students In Stockton, California, Eva Liang

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

It is thus the purpose of this study to explore the educational aspirations of a group of high school students whose ethnic background is Chinese with the intention of filling the gap in sociological research that has overlooked the Chinese community. As there are many opposing theories on the subject of aspiration, this case study of Chinese students seeks to clarify some of the theoretical perspectives and their problems. Moreover, any study of a minority group would inevitably expose some of the problems that the group faces. Once the nature of the problems is identified and understood, hopefully, solutions may …

Training Elementary School Children To Self-Determine Standards : Effects On Performance And Generalization, Esther Anne Cohen Jan 1975

Training Elementary School Children To Self-Determine Standards : Effects On Performance And Generalization, Esther Anne Cohen

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The effects of instructions, non-contingent reinforcement, and contingent reinforcement on the level of self-determined standards for both experimental and generalization items were assessed using a reversal design. In addition the effects of the level of self-determined standards on performance in spelling was examined. The results indicated that contingent reinforcement for raising standards was an effective means of training the 30 subjects in this study to set high standards of performance for both experimental and generalization items. High standards did not, however, result in high levels of performance. When reinforcement was contingent upon subjects raising their standards and then scoring at …

The Effect Of Attending Behavior Training Upon Learning, Martha Sue Peden Dec 1974

The Effect Of Attending Behavior Training Upon Learning, Martha Sue Peden

Dissertations and Theses

Various studies have been implemented concerning the physiological and psychological components of attending behavior, particularly in the area of the exceptional child. Little has been done, however, to develop specific behavioral definitions of attending behavior and to incorporate these into treatment-based research programs involving normal children attending a regular public school.

The purpose of this investigation was to discover if children from a regular public elementary school who are deficient in attending behavior skills can be taught these skills in a short-term behavior modification program and to determine if the skills thus learned facilitate learning within the regular classroom setting.
