Trauma-Informed Workplace Climate, Leadership Style, And Employee Outcomes, Patricia Mowry-Cavanaugh Apr 2023

Trauma-Informed Workplace Climate, Leadership Style, And Employee Outcomes, Patricia Mowry-Cavanaugh

Doctor of Education (Ed.D)

Social service organizations face complex challenges in delivering quality care to their clients. In meeting these challenges, organizational culture, leadership style, and agency policies are crucial. Trauma-informed care is an approach to human service that acknowledges the prevalence of trauma and widespread effects of trauma on service users, providers, and organizations. The tenets of trauma-informed care include trauma awareness, safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, a strengths-based approach, and respect for culture and gender. This study is a comparative analysis of servant leadership, trauma-informed workplace climate, and employee factors of compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue. Results of the quantitative research indicate that …

The Career Experiences Of Noninstructional Itinerant Staff In K–12 Public Schools With Demonstrated Longevity, Jessica Duncan Apr 2023

The Career Experiences Of Noninstructional Itinerant Staff In K–12 Public Schools With Demonstrated Longevity, Jessica Duncan

PhD in Organizational Leadership

Shortages in noninstructional itinerant staff (school nurses, school psychologists, school social workers) have been especially difficult for K–12 public school districts, as these individuals have critical responsibilities within the school setting that they are uniquely qualified to complete. Noninstructional itinerant employees face challenges such as isolation, role confusion, and high workloads that professionals who work in other settings or instructional colleagues may not encounter. They may also be impacted by their responsibilities related to meeting the increasing mental health needs of the students they support. The aim of this qualitative research study was to consider the experiences of 14 noninstructional …

The Self And Individualism: An Analysis On The Current Regulations Of Academic Writing, Bonnibel S. H. Walker Apr 2023

The Self And Individualism: An Analysis On The Current Regulations Of Academic Writing, Bonnibel S. H. Walker

WRIT: Journal of First-Year Writing

Individualism, the focus or emphasis on the self, is a highly discussed and debated topic in writing. This is mostly regarding how the self should be addressed and utilized in writing. Although it there is also debate about what the self truly is, and how one can represent it in their work, veering into more abstract thought and theorizing.

The amount of individualism, or the “self” that one is able to, or should imprint onto one’s writing varies widely across numerous genres of academic writing, or even writing in general. For example, in much of scientific writing there’s a broad …

Patriotism And Democratic Education, Richard Dagger Apr 2023

Patriotism And Democratic Education, Richard Dagger

Political Science Faculty Publications

Whether patriotism has a valuable part to play in the educational system of a democratic society is now a highly contentious matter. This chapter argues that it does, principally because such a society is a kind of cooperative practice that requires its members to enact, enforce, and – in most cases – obey the laws that govern their self-governing polity. Democracies rely on rules, and especially the rule of law, to provide the reasonably clear expectations necessary to coordinate public activities and to overcome collective-action problems. By encouraging citizens to set aside personal advantage and play a cooperative part in …

An Analysis Of Galactic Supernova Remnant G340.6+0.3, Walker Hartman, Thomas Pannuti Apr 2023

An Analysis Of Galactic Supernova Remnant G340.6+0.3, Walker Hartman, Thomas Pannuti

2023 Celebration of Student Scholarship - Poster Presentations

Pointed observations of Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs) as conducted at multiple wavelengths and with leading observatories (such as the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Spitzer Space Telescope) have revealed many new insights into both SNRs themselves and the interstellar medium (ISM) with which these sources are interacting. We are currently investigating the multi-wavelength (chiefly X-ray and radio) properties of poorly studied SNRs that have been readily detected in the infrared to help improve understanding of how SNRs and their surrounding ISM interplay. to demonstrate this, we present an analysis of an archival pointed observation of the Galactic SNR G340.6+0.3 with …
