Two Keynesian Models Of Simultaneous Inflation And Unemployment: Comment, Craig Macphee

In his article J. Kirker Stephens demonstrates the possibility of simultaneous inflation and unemployment in a simple Keynesian model by relaxing the assumption of labor hornogeneity. As he correctly points out, most graphical and algebraic presentations of Keynesian models have not been used before lo illustrate this empirically important phenomenon. On the other hand, Professor Stephens does not explain how the problem has been analyzed before, albeit verbally, in the traditional Keynesian framework. South Dakota is currently witnessing a revolutionary change in its elevator-farm supply industry. Technology applied in all phases of the industry -- production, processing, and distribution -- has had an impact upon the structure of the industry. Some of the changes taking place within the industry have been fostered by changes in other sectors of the economy. Employment opportunities and increasing wage rates have provided many marginal firm operators more favorable alternatives outside the elevator-farm supply business. Simultaneously, economic growth has encouraged new investments in larger grain handling and farm supply firms, thus hastening the adoption of technological developments. These …

Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages

The Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) is a comprehensive program that compiles data on employment and wages for workers covered by state unemployment insurance laws and Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees (UCFE). It provides a virtual census of nonagricultural employees and their wages, along with data on agricultural industries. The QCEW program is a cooperative effort between the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and state employment security agencies.
