The Supply Of National Park Products: A Theoretical And Applied Analysis, Judith Carol Houston

The central objective of the investigation in this study is to determine a means of attaining an economically efficient combination of resources to maximize the level of services provided by a national park under the conditions of a limited budget, a constrained production possibilities set, and a limited availability of inputs. First, a theoretical model is built which elucidates the collective and private good natures of national park products. The theory identifies the optimality criteria for the provision of park products in a system of limited resources. The major purpose of this study is to make additional information available to the farm manager through the use of decision theory. This will enable him to improve the decision-making process relating to corn production. The goal is to use the resources at his disposal more efficiently and profitably. This study is primarily concerned with factors that influence planting date and corn variety selection. Within the framework of decision theory analysis, a priori and posteriori probabilities are employed to calculate the losses that may occur to corn crops in the Cache Valley area of Utah because of harmful spring frosts …

The New Mexico Labor Market Review was prepared by the Research and Statistics section for the Employment Security Commission of New Mexico for February of 1976. It is a report on the state's employment and economic activity; total unemployment rose but was expected by seasonal patterns so the adjusted unemployment rate stayed the same from January 1976. New Mexico's unemployment rate was lower than the nations: 6.9% and 7.6%, respectively. This was from a more-than-expected increase in employment across multiple industries (mostly state government).

Should statistical forecasts be constructed by aggregating data to each level for which forecasts are required or aggregating the forecasts from the lower levels? The relevant literature suggest no general answer. In this study using actual data, forecasts aggregated form lower-level forecasts were found best.

The New Mexico Labor Market Review was prepared by the Research and Statistics section for the Employment Security Commission of New Mexico for January of 1976. It is a report on the state's employment and economic activity; there were no improvements to unemployment in January as the adjusted rate continued to remain at 7.5% from November 1975. The national unemployment rate fell but was still higher than New Mexico. Total unemployment decreased but was expected through seasonal layoffs in the trade, construction, government, and manufacturing sectors.
