In September, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. H. D. Evans, announced the appointment of two new Assistant Directors in the Department of Agriculture.

They are Mr. T. E. McDowell and Mr. J. Craig, replacing Mr. S. T. Smith, who was recently appointed Deputy Director, and Mr. G. H. Burvill, who retired.

Information Technology & Decision Sciences Faculty Publications

This paper describes the second phase of a continuing research project concerned with the attributes associated with membership and success in the computer programming occupation.   The second phase of this research has differed some-what, both in intent and practice, from the first phase. First, the initial purpose of the study was to test an approach to job analysis which included the application of the principal instrument used in the study, the JAIM, or Job Analysis and Interest Measurement.1 The use of computer programmers as the subject group was the result of the investigator's previous career as a systems analyst and …

The new Chief of the Department of Agriculture's Wheat and Sheep Division is Mr. W. J. Toms, formerly the Division's Assistant Chief. He replaces Mr. T. E. McDowell who was appointed Assistant Director of Agriculture in September.

Mr. G. H. Burvill (63) retired on September 3 as Assistant Director of Agriculture after 44 years with the Department of Agriculture. He joined the Department as a cadet in 1927.

One of Western Australia's best-known agricultural scientists, Mr. Burvill has had an important influence on many aspects of the State's farming industries over more than 30 years.

He has an unequalled knowledge of the State's soils, climate and agriculture.

THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY regretfully announces the resignation from its editorial board of Professor ROBERT BLUNK, whose increasing responsibilities as a teacher in the Art Department of Kansas State College, a consultant on numerous art projects, a member of the Kansas Cultural Arts Commission, and a practicing artist have left him, as he feels, with too little time for editorial duties which are growing increasingly heavy themselves. His successor has not yet been discovered.

THE Department of Agriculture moves into the 1970s with many of its senior positions filled by officers appointed within the last few months of 1969. The new men replace personalities who have for many years dominated the agricultural scene in Western Australia—pioneers of scientific agriculture who, in their many years of service with the Department, helped to establish prosperous farming industries in many parts of the State. Later they were largely responsible for the tremendous agricultural development that took place from 1946 to 1969.
