This issue of SEEDS reviews handicrafts as a means of providing income to women. In some instances, crafts are a solid source of income and can also provide women with a link to their own cultural heritage. In most instances, however, crafts production concentrates women in an area that is labor intensive and exploitative, providing a meager income for long hours of work. Handicrafts can be a means of increasing income for women in some settings, but only under the conditions outlined in this report, since crafts are specialized activities which have limited markets and offer limited potential as a …

Psychologists have often found it useful to think of an individual's personality as consisting of three parts. Each part is a separate source of thoughts, feelings, and motivations - - and it is useful to view each part as directing an individual's behavior at different times. This psychological perspective, it seems, can be very useful to those who market the modern theme park. Its product - - the assortment of attractions it offers to potential guests - - and the way it is promoted must appeal, in one way or another, to each distinct part of a prospective visitor's personality. …

A well-run business combines motivated, trained employees with the right work environment to produce the greatest results at the least cost. When the results (from a product or service) do not exceed costs by a sufficient margin, at least one part of the system is not operating efficiently. This problem is caused by a production deficiency, which occurs when actual performance does not match the desired performance (Herem, 1979).
