Perceptions Of Job Satisfaction In An Icf/Mr Environment, Jeffrey Shrewsbury
Perceptions Of Job Satisfaction In An Icf/Mr Environment, Jeffrey Shrewsbury
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This paper examines the relationship between perceived communication between employees, their supervisor, and the effect of perceived communication on overall job satisfaction of the employee in an ICF/MR environment. The paper also examines the length of time in a particular job and the potential effects of time as a predictor of overall job satisfaction. Benefits and communication are also examined in an attempt to determine which of the two makes the better predictor of overall job satisfaction for employees working in an ICF/MR environment. The subjects examined came from respondents to an employee attitude survey conducted by a large provider …

The Incidence Of Agricultural Policy, Julian M. Alston, Jennifer S. James
The Incidence Of Agricultural Policy, Julian M. Alston, Jennifer S. James
Agribusiness
This chapter first discusses what economists mean by "the incidence of agricultural policy" and why we care about it. Then it reviews models of the determinants of the differential incidence of different policies among interest groups such as suppliers of factors of production, consumers, middlemen, taxpayers, and others. Results are represented in terms of Marshallian economic surplus, and surplus transformation curves. After reviewing the results from standard models under restrictive assumptions, certain assumptions are relaxed in order to analyze the effects of imperfect supply controls, variability, cheating and imperfect enforcement of policies, and the dynamics of supply.
The Meaning Of Property Rights: Law Versus Economics? , Daniel H. Cole, Peter Z. Grossman
The Meaning Of Property Rights: Law Versus Economics? , Daniel H. Cole, Peter Z. Grossman
Scholarship and Professional Work - Business
Property rights are fundamentals to economic analysis. There is, however, no consensus in the economic literature about what property rights are. Economists define them variously and inconsistently, sometimes in ways that deviate from the conventional understandings of legal scholars and judges. This article explores ways in which definitions of property rights in the economic literature diverge from conventional legal understandings, and how those divergences can create interdisciplinary confusion and bias economic analyses. Indeed, some economists' idiosyncratic definitions of property rights, if used to guide policy, could lead to suboptimal economic outcomes.

The globalization of the market place is arguably the most important challenge facing companies. Globilization affects consumer behavior and attitudes in many ways, in that they transcend national borders. Thus, a major challenge facing the international marketer is to identify global market segments and reach them with products, marketing programs, and advertising messages that meet the common needs of the consumers.

A Comparison Of Auctions And Multilateral Negotiations, Charles J. Thomas, Bart J. Wilson
A Comparison Of Auctions And Multilateral Negotiations, Charles J. Thomas, Bart J. Wilson
Economics Faculty Articles and Research
We compare first-price auctions to an exchange process that we term 'multilateral negotiations.' In multilateral negotiations, a buyer solicits price offers for a homogeneous product from sellers with privately known costs, and then plays the sellers off one another to obtain additional price concessions. Using the experimental method, we find that with four sellers, transaction prices are statistically indistinguishable in the two institutions, but with two sellers, prices are higher in multilateral negotiations than in first-price auctions. The institutions are equally efficient with two sellers, but multilateral negotiations are slightly more efficient with four sellers.

Countries such as Finland and Sweden have exhibited long-established patterns of leadership in mobile telecommunications in general, while Japan's NTT DoCoMo represents an early national-level exemplar of a major m-commerce business system. The task of identifying and profiling the types of national leadership patterns likely to prevail in 3G wireless networks of Europe, Asia, and elsewhere, however, is a challenging one. This is because new technological and other forces are coming into play in the post-GSM world. In this paper, we present a framework and some evidence to show the potential national leadership patterns in 3G mbusiness applications in Asia-Pacific, …

The Sustainability Of Sustainable Consumption, Paddy Dolan
The Sustainability Of Sustainable Consumption, Paddy Dolan
Articles
This article examines the limitations of the concept of sustainable consumption in terms of the inadequate attention given to the social, cultural and historical contextualization of consumption. I argue that Macromarketing should adopt modes of inquiry that more fully engage with this contextualization. The implicit assumptions of ‘sustainable consumption’ center on the rational individual and his or her needs and wants, and neglect the significance of consumption practices as embodying the relations between individuals. Acts of consumption are not in opposition to, and prior to, macro structures and processes, they are macro processes at work. Consumer practices are cultural and …

A 5-year, pooled fund study with the Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin departments of transportation assessed the public's perceptions of pavement improvement strategies and developed thresholds of satisfaction using the departments' physical indices, such as pavement ride and condition on rural, two-lane highways in the states. Approximately 3,600 drivers in the three states were involved in the three phases of the project, which included 18 focus groups, 400 statewide surveys in each state, and 2,300 targeted surveys across the three states. A multidisciplinary team from Marquette University and a mass media survey lab conducted the studies. A summary of focus group …

There Is Nothing More Diverse Than "New", Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans
There Is Nothing More Diverse Than "New", Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans
Communication Faculty Publications - Archive
In the organizational competition for talent, successful retention of newly recruited workers is at least as important as the initial hire. Still, many organizations fail to establish a sense of inclusion for new people in much the same way they often fail to create a sense of inclusion for people of color, women, people with foreign accents, or anyone with obvious differences from the “traditional group.” In most organizations, even those that have embarked on “diversity initiatives,” newly hired people often do not feel welcomed. Consequently, turnover rates in the first two years of employment are seven times greater than …

The purpose of this study is to see the relationship between principal's communication practices with teacher's job satisfaction. Other than that, this study also would like to observe the perception by teachers towards the principal's communication practices and the level of job satisfaction among the teachers. Two dimensions of communication practices and two dimensions of job satisfaction were considered. The two dimensions of communication practices are dovmward communication and upward communication while the two dimensions of job satisfaction are motivating and hygiene factors. A survey instrument based on Down and Hazen's (1977) on communication practices and The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire …
