First-Gen Voices: Creative and Critical Narratives on the First-Generation College Experience
This paper was originally a submission for my general psychology final. The prompt for it was to analyze any topic covered in class and connect to any form of fictional media. I chose to study the social psychology behind the relationships of immigrant parents and their children, connecting it to the movie Everything, Everywhere, All At Once by Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan. I especially picked this movie because of how connected I felt to the characters in the movie as I have gone through some of the same experiences they have and know many immigrant children that have felt …
Integration Through Reform: Le Conflit That Shaped The European Union, Ricardo E. Arellanes
Integration Through Reform: Le Conflit That Shaped The European Union, Ricardo E. Arellanes
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
Historians and political scientists have highlighted Charles de Gaulle’s initial hostility towards European integration and tended to ignore his nationalist policies in favor of a focus on pan-European free trade systems. They have also argued that de Gaulle’s vision of establishing a “European Europe” created more problems than solutions. These scholars have primarily approached the question through a realist perspective, holding that de Gaulle believed that total integration would allow larger nations to manipulate smaller ones. This essay argues the opposite. In his effort to restore France’s reputation as a strong world power, de Gaulle actually helped to reinforce the …

The History Of Nazi Neuroscience: Tracing Evidence Through Voids, Angela Gushue
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
During the Holocaust (1933-1945), voids were created by the destruction of ethics, morality, and human life. We can detect this absence because of material traces of the events. My paper applies the theory of relational ontology of absence to a collection of empty jars on display at the Josephinum, a medical history museum in Vienna. The jars once contained human remains of children murdered in the “euthanasia” program at Am Spiegelgrund, a psychiatric clinic in Vienna where 789 were killed during the Nazi era. These victims were not commemorated until the early 2000s, when the specimen jars were emptied and …

Pemanfaatan Perpustakaan Institut Francais Indonesie (Mediatek Ifi) Jakarta Sebagai Media Diplomasi Budaya, Laura Ismi, Indira Irawati
Jurnal Ilmu Informasi, Perpustakaan, dan Kearsipan
Mediatek IFI Jakarta, as part of the Institut Français Indonésie (IFI), plays a vital role in supporting France’s cultural diplomacy in Indonesia. The library functions not only as a center for information access but also as a cultural space that facilitates language learning, exchange of ideas, and appreciation of French culture. This study aims to identify how Mediatek IFI Jakarta is utilized to strengthen France’s cultural diplomacy and foster intercultural understanding between France and Indonesia. A descriptive qualitative was employed in this research. Data were collected through interviews with two librarians and a pedagogical cooperation coordinator at IFI Jakarta. The …
Disrupting Latina/X Media Representations: A Performance Art Installation Informed By Autoethnographic And Embodied Explorations, Sandra Cristina Roa
Disrupting Latina/X Media Representations: A Performance Art Installation Informed By Autoethnographic And Embodied Explorations, Sandra Cristina Roa
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In this dissertation I use autoethnography and performance methods to create a performance art installation that examines and re-imagines the role of media representations in shaping how I as a Latina actively negotiates belonging and identifies this concept as always in a processes requiring negotiation. I argue belonging is influenced by how I see myself or don’t see myself in media representation and offer the counter-narrative as a way of asserting agency and disrupting marginalization. In this project, I tend to the tensions felt between being a community member, media maker, and qualitative researcher in order to disrupt media messages. …

Campesinos, often reduced to the label of “farmworkers”, are too often seen only through the lens of their labor within profit-driven systems. This thesis disrupts that limited narrative by illuminating the rich, expansive nature of vivencias campesinas, ways of being that transcend capitalist measures of value. These vivencias are lived, embodied experiences rooted in campesino lifeways, encompassing cultural, spiritual, and relational practices that nurture and sustain life.
My research is guided by four central questions: (1) In what ways have campesinos in pixley resisted exploitative labor systems, and how can this resistance be understood as a form of care labor? …

The 'Place-Based Learning Practices Project' (PBLP) is a graduate project under the Native American Studies Department Rau Dalagurr Food Sovereignty Lab and Traditional Ecological Knowledges Institute (FSL). Making contributions at the intersection of Western academia and Indigenous science, it imagines and realizes content, policies, and protocols surrounding two case studies and the larger cal poly humboldt (cph) institution which respect, honor, and uplift Indigenous sovereignty and resurgence in partnership with the Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe and the greater regional tribal community. Encompassing two projects internal and external to the institution, I aim to address the construction of controlled and protective …

''Thanks For The [Land] Acknowledgement, Now What?'': Settler Histories And Decolonial Futures At Cal Poly Humboldt's Schatz Tree Farm, Sangeeta Sarkar

As California's newest polytechnic university, Cal Poly Humboldt is often lauded for its Indigenous-facing programming and commitments to Indigenous peoples. In recent years, Native American Studies faculty, staff, and students, alongside Indigenous community partners, have led conversations about Cal Poly Humboldt meaningfully supporting tribal sovereignty by returning land to Native nations. As Cutcha Risling Baldy summarized in a research interview, "Thanks for the [land] acknowledgement, now what?" (2024, personal interview). However, though Cal Poly Humboldt has made various land acknowledgements and references to Indigenous peoples in its university policies, conversations about #LandBack have been met with resistance from the university. …

Mental Health Quality Of Women Employees At The University Of Sharjah, Bushra Alakashee Prof., Fatima A. Algharbawi Dr.
International Journal for Research in Education
This study examines the quality of mental health among 200 female employees at the University of Sharjah—teaching and administrative—during the academic year 2023–2024. The Ryff Model of Psychological Well-Being was applied using the Ryff scale with six dimensions: self-acceptance, positive relations with others, personal growth, purpose in life, environmental mastery, and autonomy. Tool validity and reliability were confirmed statistically. Findings indicate generally high mental-health quality; autonomy ranked highest among the six domains, whereas a relative weakness appeared in self-perception. Significant differences were observed by years of service (1–5, 6–10, ≥11), by marital status (single, married, widowed, divorced), and by work …

PANDION: The Osprey Journal of Research and Ideas
Papernest Media is a collaborative multimedia research project that contextualizes the history and contemporary status of insect commodities as traditional food, tourist fare, and natural dye in Oaxaca, Mexico. Our interdisciplinary team of Anne E. Pfister, PhD in Applied Medical Anthropology, Alex Kledzik, BA in Sociology and Susie Mabry, UNF International Studies, came together in 2024 to produce a short film accompanying the exploratory phase of a larger ethnographic investigation. In July 2024, we traveled to Oaxaca during a peak season and the annual Guelaguetza festival to investigate the touted sustainability of edible insects in a region known for its …
