Proxy Pattern-Mixture Analysis For A Binary Variable Subject To Nonresponse., Rebecca H. Andridge, Roderick J. Little
Proxy Pattern-Mixture Analysis For A Binary Variable Subject To Nonresponse., Rebecca H. Andridge, Roderick J. Little
The University of Michigan Department of Biostatistics Working Paper Series
We consider assessment of the impact of nonresponse for a binary survey
variable Y subject to nonresponse, when there is a set of covariates
observed for nonrespondents and respondents. To reduce dimensionality and
for simplicity we reduce the covariates to a continuous proxy variable X
that has the highest correlation with Y, estimated from a probit
regression analysis of respondent data. We extend our previously proposed
proxy-pattern mixture analysis (PPMA) for continuous outcomes to the binary
outcome using a latent variable approach. The method does not assume data
are missing at random, and creates a framework for sensitivity analyses.

Relationship Of Vitamin D Levels To Blood Pressure In A Biethnic Cohort, Rosario O. Sakamoto
Relationship Of Vitamin D Levels To Blood Pressure In A Biethnic Cohort, Rosario O. Sakamoto
Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects
Background: Serum hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] has been well-accepted as not an ordinary vitamin but a pro-hormone that has many benefits beyond its well-known effects on bone. Cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension remain a huge health burden and Blacks have been recognized to have higher prevalence of hypertension compared to non-Hispanic Whites. Despite increasing evidence of the benefits of vitamin D on blood pressure control, there is much more to be learned about the relationship of serum 25(OH)D to blood pressure among different ethnicities.
Purpose: The goal of this study was to determine whether vitamin D serum 25(OH)D levels were …
Social Marketing, Stages Of Change, And Public Health Smoking Interventions, Paula Diehr
Social Marketing, Stages Of Change, And Public Health Smoking Interventions, Paula Diehr
Paula Diehr
As a "thought experiment," the authors used a modified stages of change model for smoking to define homogeneous segments within various hypothetical populations. The authors then estimated the population effect of public health interventions that targeted the different segments. Under most assumptions, interventions that emphasized primary and secondary prevention, by targeting the Never Smoker, Maintenance, or Action segments, resulted in the highest nonsmoking life expectancy. This result is consistent with both social marketing and public health principles. Although the best thing for an individual smoker is to stop smoking, the greatest public health benefit is achieved by interventions that target …

There is plausible biological evidence as well as epidemiologic evidence to suggest coffee consumption may lower endometrial cancer risk. We evaluated the associations between self-reported total coffee, caffeinated coffee and decaffeinated coffee, and endometrial cancer risk using the Women’s Health Initiative Observational Study Research Materials obtained from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Biological Specimen and Data Repository Coordinating Center. Our primary analyses included 45,696 women and 427 incident endometrial cancer cases, diagnosed over a total of 342,927 person-years of follow-up. We used Cox-proportional hazard models to evaluate coffee consumption and endometrial cancer risk. Overall, we did not find …
