The average salary of a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) player is 110 times less than a National Basketball Association (NBA) player’s. Despite growing WNBA viewership, gender inequality in sports remains high, with critics claiming female athletes are less skilled. Gender bias in sports is severely understudied, making direct comparisons to men’s leagues unfair due to long-term lack of investment in women’s sports. This study investigates whether the perceived disparity in skill levels between WNBA and NBA players' is genuine or influenced more by external factors by developing an unbiased measure of player efficiency to compare athletic performance. This presentation focuses on a group of texts that advocate for a change in the current belief system. These texts are the Feminist Manifesto, Sojourner Truth: Ain’t I a Woman?, and Civilization and Its Discontents. These first two texts advocate for women’s rights, while Freud’s book is focused on civilization’s decline and how our understanding of community can affect this. Through our presentation, we want to examine the differences in sentiment and language between the feminist texts and Freud’s texts to pinpoint whether or not sentiment changes when advocating for different beliefs.

The purpose of this project was to perform a sentiment analysis of three texts used in Ursinus College's Common Intellectual Experience (CIE) course: Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates, The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and Discourse on Method by Rene Descartes. Word count and word cloud analysis were also performed on the texts as well as term frequency and bigram analysis.

Capture-recapture models are essential tools for estimating population dynamics in ecological studies. A fundamental component of these models is the capture history matrix, which records individual detection over time and serves as the basis for estimating survival and capture probabilities. This presentation explores three statistical approaches to these estimations: the Cormack-Jolly-Seber (CJS) model, the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for CJS, and the Bayesian CJS model. The CJS model provides a likelihood-based framework for estimation, and the HMM CJS incorporates latent states into the model to account for uncertainty in detection. The grocery retail industry landscape has changed greatly in the wake of the pandemic. Specifically, delivery and pickup services have become more popular and customer buying habits have evolved. At the same time, improvements in data collection and analysis have allowed grocery marketing strategies to become highly individualized.

We worked with 84.51, an analytics firm, to identify customer segments for the Kroger Company based on data from 2023. Using clustering techniques, we organized customers into groups, or segments, based on similar characteristics. We identified and profiled four distinct groups of customers. While COVID lockdown measures have had varying effects on the mental health of different demographics, several bodies of research have noted their disparate effect on women. Why is women's mental health more negatively impacted by lockdown measures, and how much more are they impacted than men? How can we predict and mitigate these negative effects on women? This paper aims to contribute to answering those questions by comparing COVID stringency measures and their effect on the gap in depression rates between men and women in two neighboring countries: Nicaragua and Honduras.

Nuclear chromatin patterns have been used historically to distinguish between different developmental stages and lineages of white blood cells. While it is common to characterize cells based on arbitrary ‘open’ or ‘closed’ chromatin patterns, quantification of chromatin data is lacking. By extracting nuclei from a database of white blood cells and running fractal analyses using TWOMBLI, we were able to produce meaningful data quantifying chromatin patterns. Our data were put through a random forest algorithm which grouped each point based on relationship probability. Accurate crop yield predictions can help farmers make adjustments or changes in their farming practices to optimize their harvest. Remote sensing data is an inexpensive approach to collecting massive amounts of data that could be utilized for predicting crop yield. This study employed linear regression and spatial linear models were used to predict soybean yield with data from Landsat 8 OLI. Each model was built using only spectral bands of the satellite, only vegetation indices, and both spectral bands and vegetation indices. Bridge scour, the primary cause of bridge failure in the United States, escalates post-severe storms, necessitating effective mitigation. This study employs a GIS-based risk analysis model to assess climate change's impact on bridge scour and associated risks in New York State. Sentiment Analysis Before And During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Emily Musgrove

This study examines the change in connotative language use before and during the Covid-19 pandemic. By analyzing news articles from several major US newspapers, we found that there is a statistically significant correlation between the sentiment of the text and the publication period. Specifically, we document a large, systematic, and statistically significant decline in the overall sentiment of articles published in major news outlets. While our results do not directly gauge the sentiment of the population, our findings have important implications regarding the social responsibility of journalists and media outlets especially in times of crisis.

It is well documented that barriers exist for underrepresented minorities to enter the field of medicine and even more competitive residencies. As defined by the NRMP, competitive specialties include but are not limited to Interventional Radiology, Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Vascular Surgery, Neurosurgery, Dermatology, and Otornylogy (NRMP-AMA). A large number of osteopathic medical school graduates have a history of going into primary care specialties because many osteopathic medical schools have a primary care focus (Primary Care- Osteopathic Medicine). In recent years, immunotherapy investigational drugs in cancer research has been underway in treating multiple forms of cancer due to a lower side effect profile and decreased severe infusion-reaction risk compared to conventional chemotherapy agents. The purpose of this study was to determine the infusion reaction severity among patients receiving either chemotherapy treatment or immunotherapy agents based on the CTCAE (Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events) scale to improve patient care outcomes.
