A Correlation Study Of Atmospheric Conditions & Incidences Of Respiratory Deaths, Bernice Wilder

Mortality data from two populations, Bowling Green and Lexington, Kentucky, were correlated with atmospheric conditions for this region. The mortality data included the cause of death by respiratory disease, age, sex and race. The respiratory diseases considered in this study were emphysema, tuberculosis, pneumonia, asthma, influenza, acute and chronic bronchitis. The atmospheric conditions considered t have an effect on health were temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity and precipitation. Mean temperature, mean barometric pressure, and mean precipitation per month were correlated with the death rate per thousand but proved no significance at the .05 level in either study area. The inner most circles are at 1/4 and 1/8 mile intervals; 1/2 mile intervals through 3 miles and then 1 mile intervals to 8 miles. Features included on the chart are Pearce-Ford Tower, McDonald's restaurant, WBKO TV tower, Bowling Green-Warren County Hospital Water Tower, Bowling Green Water tower, Greenview Hospital, knobs and the Greewood Interchange

An examination of the socio-economic development of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (Micronesia). A section devoted to early development deals with the long history of foreign administrators who have controlled the islands. The paper deals with interaction between the Micronesians and their administrators and will focus upon relations with the current administrator, the United States, which operates in the islands under a mandate from the United Nations. At the time of the writing of this paper the Micronesians were holding a plebiscite to determine their future political direction. Consideration is given to economic trends within the islands, the …

Humboldt Bay is a coastal lagoon, 14 mi. long and a maximum of 4 mi. wide. The bay has three distinct segments, South, Entrance, and Arcata Bays, each of which occupies the seaward end of one or more stream valleys cut into Plio- Pleistocene paralic sediments. The segments are linked by narrow tidal channels which are bounded by a barrier spit on the west and by high valley interfluves on the east. Climate of the area is rainy temperate . Tides are of the mixed type with a mean range of 6.5 ft.

The purpose of this paper is to describe and illustrate some of the features that are of particular interest in the forecasting of one of the most death-dealing series of convective storms of the 1950s that occurred during the afternoon and evening of February 1, 1955. This series of severe storms included tornadoes, destructive winds, hail, and heavy rain that first struck near Marianata, Arkansas, then roared through Commerce Landing, Mississippi and northern Mississippi. then moved on to near Huntsville, Alabama.
