Qualitative Analysis Of Solutions To A General Class Of Nonlinear Difference Equations With Applications, Osama Moaaz, Mohamed F. Abouelenein, Mona Anis
Qualitative Analysis Of Solutions To A General Class Of Nonlinear Difference Equations With Applications, Osama Moaaz, Mohamed F. Abouelenein, Mona Anis
Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications
This work examines the qualitative behavior of a general class of difference equations. We establish criteria guaranteeing the stability, periodicity, and boundedness of the solutions of the equation under consideration. In addition, we identify its invariant intervals. The theoretical results are subsequently applied to various special cases, among them the May--Host model. Numerical simulations are presented to demonstrate the dynamics of the solutions and to validate the theoretical analysis.
A New Approach To Generate Combinatorial Patterns In Logical Analysis Of Data And Its Application To Predict College Retention, Salihah Ahmed E. Jaafari
A New Approach To Generate Combinatorial Patterns In Logical Analysis Of Data And Its Application To Predict College Retention, Salihah Ahmed E. Jaafari
Theses and Dissertations
Student retention and degree completion remain central challenges for higher-education institutions, with significant implications for student success, institutional effectiveness, and public accountability. While advances in predictive analytics have enabled earlier identification of students at risk of withdrawal, many commonly used machine learning approaches suffer from limited interpretability, constraining their practical usefulness for advising, intervention, and policy decision making. This dissertation addresses the problem of predicting student persistence by developing and evaluating optimization based, interpretable classification models within the Logical Analysis of Data (LAD) framework. Building on existing LAD formulations, this research introduces two novel pattern generation models, the Best Term …
Catalan And Hyper-Catalan Numbers: Combinatorial Applications To Polynomial Equations, Leilani Natale
Catalan And Hyper-Catalan Numbers: Combinatorial Applications To Polynomial Equations, Leilani Natale
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
In this paper, we study Catalan numbers and their generalization, hyper-Catalan numbers, and explore how these sequences arise naturally in the context of solving polynomial equations using infinite power series. We begin by introducing the Catalan numbers through their combinatorial interpretation as triangulations of convex polygons. Using this geometric definition, we derive a relation whose recursive structure leads to a quadratic functional equation. Interpreting this relation as a formal power series equation allows us to express solutions to quadratic equations as infinite power series whose coefficients are given by the Catalan numbers. This framework is then extended by allowing polygon …
Computational Representation, Analysis And Verification Of Requirements In Engineering Design And Systems Engineering, Chandan Kumar Sahu
Computational Representation, Analysis And Verification Of Requirements In Engineering Design And Systems Engineering, Chandan Kumar Sahu
All Dissertations
Systems are developed to satisfy a set of requirements derived from stakeholders’ needs, defining the problem space for which the system is created as a feasible solution. The system design process begins with eliciting these requirements and concludes with validating whether the created system meets them. Requirements engineering (RE) encompasses elicitation, representation, analysis, documentation, verification, and validation. However, challenges in RE, such as imprecision in natural language (NL), proprietary restrictions, and a lack of standardized quality metrics, hinder the creation of well-formed and comprehensive requirements. These challenges complicate formalization and analysis of requirements.
This dissertation addresses these challenges by proposing …

An Analysis Of The Sequence Xn+2 = I M Xn+1 + Xn, David Duncan, Prashant Sansgiry, Ogul Arslan, Jensen Meade
Journal of the South Carolina Academy of Science
We analyze the sequence Xn+2 = imXn+1 + Xn, with X1 = X2 = 1 + i, where i is the imaginary number and m is a real number. Plotting the sequence in the complex plane for different values of m, we see interesting figures from the conic sections. For values of m in the interval (−2, 2) we show that the figures generated are ellipses. We also provide analysis which prove that for certain values of m, the sequence generated is periodic with even period.
Finite Matroidal Spaces And Matrological Spaces, Ziyad M. Hamad
Finite Matroidal Spaces And Matrological Spaces, Ziyad M. Hamad
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
The purpose of this thesis is to present new different spaces as attempts to generalize the concept of topological vector spaces. A topological vector space, a well-known concept in mathematics, is a vector space over a field \mathbb{F} with a topology that makes the addition and scalar multiplication operations of the vector space continuous functions. The field \mathbb{F} is usually \mathbb{R} or \mathbb{C} with their standard topologies. Since every vector space is a finitary matroid, we define two spaces called finite matroidal spaces and matrological spaces by replacing the linear structure of the topological vector space with a finitary matroidal …

Unomaha Problem Of The Week (2021-2022 Edition), Brad Horner, Jordan M. Sahs
UNO Student Research and Creative Activity Fair
The University of Omaha math department's Problem of the Week was taken over in Fall 2019 from faculty by the authors. The structure: each semester (Fall and Spring), three problems are given per week for twelve weeks, with each problem worth ten points - mimicking the structure of arguably the most well-regarded university math competition around, the Putnam Competition, with prizes awarded to top-scorers at semester's end. The weekly competition was halted midway through Spring 2020 due to COVID-19, but relaunched again in Fall 2021, with massive changes.
Now there are three difficulty tiers to POW problems, roughly corresponding to …

Let λ(G) be the smallest number of vertices that can be removed from a non-empty graph G so that the resulting graph has a smaller maximum degree. Let λe(G) be the smallest number of edges that can be removed from G for the same purpose. Let k be the maximum degree of G, let t be the number of vertices of degree k, let M(G) be the set of vertices of degree k, let n be the number of vertices in the closed neighbourhood of M(G), and let m be the …
Algebraic, Analytic, And Combinatorial Properties Of Power Product Expansions In Two Independent Variables., Mohamed Ammar Elewoday
Algebraic, Analytic, And Combinatorial Properties Of Power Product Expansions In Two Independent Variables., Mohamed Ammar Elewoday
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Let $F(x,y)=I+\hspace{-.3cm}\sum\limits_{\substack{p=1\\m+n=p}}^{\infty}\hspace{-.3cm}A_{m,n}x^my^n$ be a formal power series, where the coefficients $A_{m,n}$ are either all matrices or all scalars. We expand $F(x,y)$ into the formal products $\prod\limits_{\substack{p=1\\m+n=p}}^{\infty}\hspace{-.3cm}(I+G_{m,n}x^m y^n)$, $\prod\limits_{\substack{p=1\\m+n=p}}^{\infty}\hspace{-.3cm}(I-H_{m,n}x^m y^n)^{-1}$, namely the \textit{ power product expansion in two independent variables} and \textit{inverse power product expansion in two independent variables} respectively. By developing new machinery involving the majorizing infinite product, we provide estimates on the domain of absolute convergence of the infinite product via the Taylor series coefficients of $F(x,y)$. This machinery introduces a myriad of "mixed expansions", uncovers various algebraic connections between the $(A_{m,n})$ and the $(G_{m,n})$, and uncovers various algebraic …
Combinatorial And Asymptotic Statistical Properties Of Partitions And Unimodal Sequences, Walter Mcfarland Bridges
Combinatorial And Asymptotic Statistical Properties Of Partitions And Unimodal Sequences, Walter Mcfarland Bridges
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Our main results are asymptotic zero-one laws satisfied by the diagrams of unimodal sequences of positive integers. These diagrams consist of columns of squares in the plane; the upper boundary is called the shape. For various types of unimodal sequences, we show that, as the number of squares tends to infinity, 100% of shapes are near a certain curve---that is, there is a single limit shape. Similar phenomena have been well-studied for integer partitions, but several technical difficulties arise in the extension of such asymptotic statistical laws to unimodal sequences. We develop a widely applicable method for obtaining these limit …

A filtered subspace iteration for computing a cluster of eigenvalues and its accompanying eigenspace, known as “FEAST”, has gained considerable attention in recent years. This work studies issues that arise when FEAST is applied to compute part of the spectrum of an unbounded partial differential operator. Specifically, when the resolvent of the partial differential operator is approximated by the discontinuous Petrov Galerkin (DPG) method, it is shown that there is no spectral pollution. The theory also provides bounds on the discretization errors in the spectral approximations. Numerical experiments for simple operators illustrate the theory and also indicate the value of …

Computing Homology Of Hypergraphs, Jackson Earl
STAR Program Research Presentations
In the modern age of data science, the necessity for efficient and insightful analytical tools that enable us to interpret large data structures inherently presents itself. With the increasing utility of metrics offered by the mathematics of hypergraph theory and algebraic topology, we are able to explore multi-way relational datasets and actively develop such tools. Throughout this research endeavor, one of the primary goals has been to contribute to the development of computational algorithms pertaining to the homology of hypergraphs. More specifically, coding in python to compute the homology groups of a given hypergraph, as well as their Betti numbers …

Neutrosophic set has been derived from a new branch of philosophy, namely Neutrosophy. Neutrosophic set is capable of dealing with uncertainty, indeterminacy and inconsistent information. Neutrosophic set approaches are suitable to modeling problems with uncertainty, indeterminacy and inconsistent information in which human knowledge is necessary, and human evaluation is needed. Neutrosophic set theory was firstly proposed in 1998 by Florentin Smarandache, who also developed the concept of single valued neutrosophic set, oriented towards real world scientific and engineering applications. Since then, the single valued neutrosophic set theory has been extensively studied in books and monographs, the properties of neutrosophic sets …
Fractional Difference Operators And Related Boundary Value Problems, Scott C. Gensler
Fractional Difference Operators And Related Boundary Value Problems, Scott C. Gensler
Department of Mathematics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
In this dissertation we develop a fractional difference calculus for functions on a discrete domain. We start by showing that the Taylor monomials, which play a role analagous to that of the power functions in ordinary differential calculus, can be expressed in terms of a family of polynomials which I will refer to as the Pochhammer polynomials. These important functions, the Taylor monomials, were previously described by other scholars primarily in terms of the gamma function. With only this description it is challenging to understand their properties. Describing the Taylor monomials in terms of the Pochhammer polynomials has made it …

On Some Geometry Of Graphs, Zachary S. Mcguirk
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
In this thesis we study the intrinsic geometry of graphs via the constants that appear in discretized partial differential equations associated to those graphs. By studying the behavior of a discretized version of Bochner's inequality for smooth manifolds at the cone point for a cone over the set of vertices of a graph, a lower bound for the internal energy of the underlying graph is obtained. This gives a new lower bound for the size of the first non-trivial eigenvalue of the graph Laplacian in terms of the curvature constant that appears at the cone point and the size of …

The concept of single valued neutrosophic graphs (SVNGs) generalizes the concept of fuzzy graphs and intuitionistic fuzzy graphs. The purpose of this research paper is to define different types of strong degrees in SVNGs and introduce novel concepts, such as the vertex truth-membership, vertex indeterminacy-membership and falsity-membership sequence in SVNG with proof and numerical illustrations.

In this book authors introduce the new notion of MOD rectangular planes. The functions on them behave very differently when compared to MOD planes (square). These are different from the usual MOD planes. Algebraic structures on these MOD rectangular planes are defined and developed. However we have built only MOD interval natural neutrosophic products

On The Density Of The Odd Values Of The Partition Function, Samuel Judge
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
The purpose of this dissertation is to introduce a new approach to the study of one of the most basic and seemingly intractable problems in partition theory, namely the conjecture that the partition function $p(n)$ is equidistributed modulo $2$. We provide a doubly-indexed, infinite family of conjectural identities in the ring of series $\Z_2[[q]]$, which relate $p(n)$ with suitable $t$-multipartition functions, and show how to, in principle, prove each such identity. We will exhibit explicit proofs for $32$ of our identities. However, the conjecture remains open in full generality. A striking consequence of these conjectural identities is that, under suitable …

A bipolar single-valued neutrosophic (BSVN) graph structure is a generalization of a bipolar fuzzy graph. In this research paper, we present certain concepts of BSVN graph structures. We describe some operations on BSVN graph structures and elaborate on these with examples. Moreover, we investigate some related properties of these operations.

In this paper, we propose the complex neutrosophic soft set model, which is a hybrid of complex fuzzy sets, neutrosophic sets and soft sets. The basic set theoretic operations and some concepts related to the structure of this model are introduced, and illustrated. An example related to a decision making problem involving uncertain and subjective information is presented, to demonstrate the utility of this model.

A single valued neutrosophic graph is a generalized structure of fuzzy graph, intuitionistic fuzzy graph that gives more precision, flexibility and compatibility to a system when compared with systems that are designed using fuzzy graphs and intuitionistic fuzzy graphs. This paper addresses for the first time, the shortest path in an acyclic neutrosophic directed graph using ranking function. Here each edge length is assigned to single valued neutrosophic numbers instead of a real number. The neutrosophic number is able to represent the indeterminacy in the edge (arc) costs of neutrosophic graph. A proposed algorithm gives the shortest path and shortest …

Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)
In this thesis we discuss the various approaches that will be taken to evaluate and find a finite closed form for the sum $$\sum_{n \in \mathbb{Z}} \frac{1}{(n^3+Bn^2+Cn+D)^k}$$ where $B, C, D \in \mathbb{C}$ and $k$ is a positive integer. We begin this thesis by studying the cubic equations and discussing briefly various methods of finding their roots. Cardano's method (1545) for finding the roots of cubic polynomials is explored in detail as this method is used in later parts of the thesis to make calculations while evaluating the sums. Various tools and techniques from Fourier analysis are reviewed for these …

In this book authors for the first time introduce a special type of fixed points using MOD square matrix operators. These special type of fixed points are different from the usual classical fixed points. A study of this is carried out in this book. Several interesting properties are developed in this regard. The notion of these fixed points find many applications in the mathematical models which are dealt systematically by the authors in the forth coming books. These special type of fixed points or special realized limit cycles are always guaranteed as we use only MOD matrices as operators with …

The science’s function is realizing the natural world, developing our society in coordination with natural laws and the mathematics provides the quantitative tool and method for solving problems helping with that understanding. Generally, understanding a natural thing by mathematical ways or means to other sciences are respectively establishing mathematical model on typical characters of it with analysis first, and then forecasting its behaviors, and finally, directing human beings for hold on its essence by that model.
