According to the Center for Community College Student Engagement (2019), many students attending two-year institutions need productive persistence strategies, including the development of a growth mindset. Although some growth mindset interventions have been effective in improving academic achievement among students (Boaler, 2016; Canning et al., 2024) and persistence (Lewis, 2019) among students, especially those with developmental needs (Suh et al., 2019) and those in mathematics, little is known about the experiences of students and teachers (i.e., students’ perceptions of teachers’ intentions and implementation) as teachers work to foster a growth mindset culture (Murphy et al., 2021). Classifying Mathieu-Zhao Subspaces In Products Of Cyclic Rings, Sarah A. Huber

Mathieu-Zhao subspaces are a generalization of ideals in an algebra and were introduced by Wenhua Zhao in connection to the Jacobian conjecture and its variants. These subspaces have interesting properties, and often the problem of classification is hard. In this thesis, we investigate the structure of Mathieu-Zhao subspaces of the cartesian product of integers modulo powers of a prime p, Zpr × Zps . We will give a complete classification of the subgroups, maximal subgroups, Mathieu-Zhao subspaces, and maximal Mathieu-Zhao subspaces in these rings.

Fuchs' Problem For Quasi-Cyclic Groups, Dalen F. Elliott

Fuchs’ problem asks which groups can arise as the group of units of a ring. Although the finite cyclic case has been completely classified, much less is known in the infinite setting. This thesis contributes to this problem by investigating quasi-cyclic. (Pr¨ufer) groups and their finite direct products. We show that for every odd prime p, there is no commutative ring R such that R×∼= Cp∞. This obstruction arises from characteristic restrictions and the algebraic structure of finite fields. In 1890, David Hilbert published a set of notes on what now constitutes one of the bases of Commutative Algebra; his work would eventually influence the efforts of mathematicians like Ernst Kunz. In 1969, Ernst Kunz introduced a particular mapping regarding modules of regular local rings. His goal was to characterize Noetherian local rings of prime characteristic by computing the length of the composition series under Frobenius power transformations. On Higher Level Zhu Algebras Of N-Graded Vertex Algebras Associated With Simple Leibniz Algebras That Contain Sl2, Christian Soltermann

In this thesis, we study how the higher-level Zhu algebras of a vertex algebra reflect the structure of associated simple Leibniz algebras. In particular, we construct a vertex algebra from a vertex algebroid containing the simple Lie algebra sl2 and analyze its higher level Zhu algebras. The irreducible modules of this vertex algebra were completely classified in [JY20b], but the structure of its indecomposable modules remains an open problem. Since modules for higher level Zhu algebras correspond to modules of vertex algebras, studying these algebras provides a method for understanding their broader representation theory.

A fundamental problem in the study of vertex (operator) algebras V is the determination of the group of (grading-preserving) N-graded vertex algebras associated with cyclic Leibniz algebras of dimensions 2 and 3 that were classified by C. Barnes, E. Martin, J. Service, and G. Yamskulna in [1].

Gradient descent is a popular optimization method that utilizes a model’s prediction error to iteratively improve its parameters for a given task. The functions that measure this error can be defined to align with the user’s goals and sometimes satisfy metric or norm properties. It is common for these functions to measure over Rn, but any differentiable space allows for gradient descent to occur. Many studies highlight the challenges students face when transitioning to algebra at the secondary level. Introducing algebraic concepts and fostering algebraic thinking at the primary level can help mitigate these difficulties. Prior to formal algebra instruction, early algebra can be cultivated as a mode of thinking known as algebraic thinking. Several international curricula, such as Singapore Math, incorporate early algebraic thinking into the early stages of schooling. Singapore Math, renowned for its high performance in international assessments, has been widely adopted by schools seeking to replicate its success.

Teaching students with Intellectual Disability (ID) is a relatively new endeavor. Beginning in 2001 with the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act, the general education curriculum integrated algebra across the K-12 curriculum (Kendall, 2011; National Governors Association Center for Best Practices & Council of Chief State School Officers, 2010), and expansion of the curriculum included five intertwined skills (productive disposition, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and conceptual understanding) (Kilpatrick, Swafford, & Findell, 2001). An n-dimensional halved cube is a graph whose vertices are the binary strings of length n, where two vertices are adjacent if and only if they differ in exactly two positions. It can be regarded as the graph whose vertex set is one partite set of the n-dimensional hypercube, with an edge joining vertices at hamming distance two. This work addresses various Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Physical (PHY) layer mechanisms to extract and exploit RF waveform features (”fingerprints”) that are inherently unique to specific devices and that may be used to provide hardware specific identification (manufacturer, model, and/or serial number). This is addressed by applying a Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform (DT-CWT) to improve burst detection and RF fingerprint classification. A ”Denoised VT” technique is introduced to improve performance at lower SNRs, with denoising implemented using a DT-CWT decomposition prior to Traditional VT processing. Given a finite collection of classifiers one might wish to combine, or fuse, the classifiers in hopes that the multiple classifier system (MCS) will perform better than the individuals. One method of fusing classifiers is to combine their final decision using Boolean rules (e.g., a logical OR, AND, or a majority vote of the classifiers in the system). An established method for evaluating a classifier is measuring some aspect of its Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve, which graphs the trade-off between the conditional probabilities of detection and false alarm.
