This thesis is centered around the construction and analysis of the principal arithmetic surface (3, 5) over Q. By adjoining the two symbols i,j, where i2 = 3, j2 = 5, such that ij = -ji, I can produce a quaternion algebra over Q. I use this quaternion algebra to find a discrete subgroup of SL2(R), which I identify with isometries of the hyperbolic plane. From this quaternion algebra, I produce a large list of matrices and apply them via Mobius transformations to the point (0, 2), which is the center of my Dirichlet domain. This …

We will examine progenitors. We start with progenitors of the form $m^{*n} : N$ where $m^{*n}$ is a free group and $N$ is a permutation group of degree $n$. But, $m^{*n} : N$ is a group of infinite order so we will factor by the necessary relations to get finite homomorphic images. These groups are constructed through the manual double coset enumeration method. We will examine how to construct progenitors for wreath products.

We decompose the space of algebraic curvature tensors (ACTs) on a finite dimensional, real inner product space under the action of the orthogonal group into three inequivalent and irreducible subspaces: the real numbers, the space of trace-free symmetric bilinear forms, and the space of Weyl tensors. First, we decompose the space of ACTs using two short exact sequences and a key result, Lemma 3.5, which allows us to express one vector space as the direct sum of the others. In Calculus we learned that Sum^{n}_{k=1} k = [n(n+1)]/2 , that Sum^{n}_{k=1} k^2 = [n(n+1)(2n+1)]/6 , and that Sum^{n}_{k=1} k^{3} = (n(n+1)/2)^{2}. These formulas are useful when solving for the area below quadratic or cubic function over an interval [a, b]. This tedious process, solving for areas under a quadratic or a cubic, served as motivation for the introduction of Riemman integrals. For the overzealous math student, these steps were replaced by a simpler method of evaluating antiderivatives at the endpoints a and b. The activity asks the student to first recall basic facts about arc length, and then introduces the notion of measuring lengths of vectors differently, depending on where their initial point is. In this project, we searched for new constructions and symmetric presentations of important groups, nonabelian simple groups, their automorphism groups, or groups that have these as their factor groups. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the road towards the structure of simple and semi-simple Artinian rings. We refer to these structure theorems as the Wedderburn-Artin theorems. On this journey, we will discuss R-modules, the Jacobson radical, Artinian rings, nilpotency, idempotency, and more. Once we reach our destination, we will examine some implications of these theorems. As a fair warning, no ring will be assumed to be commutative, or to have unity. This thesis discusses the topic of Boolean algebras. In order to build intuitive understanding of the topic, research began with the investigation of Boolean algebras in the area of Abstract Algebra. The content of this initial research used a particular notation. The ideas of partially ordered sets, lattices, least upper bounds, and greatest lower bounds were used to define the structure of a Boolean algebra. From this fundamental understanding, we were able to study atoms, Boolean algebra isomorphisms, and Stone’s Representation Theorem for finite Boolean algebras. The main focus of this paper is the study of elliptic curves, non-singular projective curves of genus 1. Under a geometric operation, the rational points E(Q) of an elliptic curve E form a group, which is a finitely-generated abelian group by Mordell’s theorem. Thus, this group can be expressed as the finite direct sum of copies of Z and finite cyclic groups. The number of finite copies of Z is called the rank of E(Q).
