The Modern Methods Of Using Alternative Energy Sources, U. Mirzayev, J. T. Tulakov Jakhongir Turakul Ugl

Central Asian Problems of Modern Science and Education

At present, much attention is paid to the use of solar energy. Solar energy, in addition to traditional energy, is ecologically clean while changing. The rarity and the rising cost of fuel is one of the main problems of the scientific technique, which is the acquisition of infinite resources of solar energy. Further research and experiments on the use of solar energy, as well as the use of solar power plants in a number of countries, shows that solar energy can be widely used today based on modern technical capacities

Schwarz Waveform Relaxation With Adaptive Pipelining, Felix Kwok, Benjamin W. Ong Jan 2019

Schwarz Waveform Relaxation With Adaptive Pipelining, Felix Kwok, Benjamin W. Ong

Department of Mathematical Sciences Publications

Schwarz waveform relaxation (SWR) methods have been developed to solve a wide range of diffusion-dominated and reaction-dominated equations. The appeal of these methods stems primarily from their ability to use nonconforming space-time discretizations; SWR methods are consequently well-adapted for coupling models with highly varying spatial and time scales. The efficacy of SWR methods is questionable, however, since in each iteration, one propagates an error across the entire time interval. In this manuscript, we introduce an adaptive pipeline approach wherein one subdivides the computational domain into space-time blocks, and adaptively selects the waveform iterates which should be updated given a fixed …

Numerical Solution For Solving Procedure For 3d Motions Near Libration Points In The Circular Restricted Three Body Problem (Cr3bp), Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In a recent paper in Astrophysics and Space Science Vol. 364 no. 11 (2019), S. Ershkov & D. Leschenko presented a new solving procedure for Euler-Poisson equations for solving momentum equations of the CR3BP near libration points for uniformly rotating planets having inclined orbits in the solar system with respect to the orbit of the Earth. The system of equations of the CR3BP has been explored with regard to the existence of an analytic way of presentation of the approximated solution in the vicinity of libration points. A new and elegant ansatz has been suggested in their publication whereby, in …

Assessment Of Post-Wildfire Debris Flow Occurrence Using Classifier Tree, Priscilla Addison, Thomas Oommen, Qiuying Sha Jan 2019

Assessment Of Post-Wildfire Debris Flow Occurrence Using Classifier Tree, Priscilla Addison, Thomas Oommen, Qiuying Sha

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

Besides the dangers of an actively burning wildfire, a plethora of other hazardous consequences can occur afterwards. Debris flows are among the most hazardous of these, being known to cause fatalities and extensive damage to infrastructure. Although debris flows are not exclusive to fire affected areas, a wildfire can increase a location’s susceptibility by stripping its protective covers like vegetation and introducing destabilizing factors such as ash filling soil pores to increase runoff potential. Due to the associated dangers, researchers are developing statistical models to isolate susceptible locations. Existing models predominantly employ the logistic regression algorithm; however, previous studies have …

Critical Fault-Detecting Time Evaluation In Software With Discrete Compound Poisson Models, Min-Hsiung Hsieh, Shuen-Lin Jeng, Paul Kvam Jan 2019

Critical Fault-Detecting Time Evaluation In Software With Discrete Compound Poisson Models, Min-Hsiung Hsieh, Shuen-Lin Jeng, Paul Kvam

Department of Math & Statistics Faculty Publications

Software developers predict their product’s failure rate using reliability growth models that are typically based on nonhomogeneous Poisson (NHP) processes. In this article, we extend that practice to a nonhomogeneous discrete-compound Poisson process that allows for multiple faults of a system at the same time point. Along with traditional reliability metrics such as average number of failures in a time interval, we propose an alternative reliability index called critical fault-detecting time in order to provide more information for software managers making software quality evaluation and critical market policy decisions. We illustrate the significant potential for improved analysis using wireless failure …

With the increasing utility of metrics offered by the mathematics of hypergraph theory and algebraic topology, we are able to explore multi-way relational datasets and actively develop such tools. Throughout this research endeavor, one of the primary goals has been to contribute to the development of computational algorithms pertaining to the homology of hypergraphs. More specifically, coding in python to compute the homology groups of a given hypergraph, as well as their Betti numbers …

Identifying Important Parameters In The Inflammatory Process With A Mathematical Model Of Immune Cell Influx And Macrophage Polarization, Marcella Torres, Jing Wang, Paul J. Yannie, Shobha Ghosh, Rebecca A. Segal, Angela M. Reynolds Jan 2019

Identifying Important Parameters In The Inflammatory Process With A Mathematical Model Of Immune Cell Influx And Macrophage Polarization, Marcella Torres, Jing Wang, Paul J. Yannie, Shobha Ghosh, Rebecca A. Segal, Angela M. Reynolds

Mathematics and Applied Mathematics Publications

In an inflammatory setting, macrophages can be polarized to an inflammatory M1 phenotype or to an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype, as well as existing on a spectrum between these two extremes. Dysfunction of this phenotypic switch can result in a population imbalance that leads to chronic wounds or disease due to unresolved inflammation. Therapeutic interventions that target macrophages have therefore been proposed and implemented in diseases that feature chronic inflammation such as diabetes mellitus and atherosclerosis. We have developed a model for the sequential influx of immune cells in the peritoneal cavity in response to a bacterial stimulus that includes macrophage …

Universal Quantum Computation, Junya Kasahara Jan 2019

Universal Quantum Computation, Junya Kasahara

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

We study quantum computers and their impact on computability. First, we summarize the history of computer science. Only a few articles have determined the direction of computer science and industry despite the fact that many works have been dedicated to the present success. We choose articles by A. M. Turing and D. Deutsch, because A. M. Turing proposed the basic architecture of modern computers while D. Deutsch proposed an architecture for the next generation of computers called quantum computers. Second, we study the architecture of modern computers using Turing machines. The Turing machine has the basic design of modern computers …

Exploring The Variance Of The Sample Variance Through Estimation And Simulation, Christina Stradwick Jan 2019

Exploring The Variance Of The Sample Variance Through Estimation And Simulation, Christina Stradwick

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

In this thesis, we examine properties of the variance of the sample variance, which we will denote V (S 2 ). We derive a formula for this variance and show that it only depends on the sample size, variance, and kurtosis of the underlying distribution. We also derive the maximum likelihood estimators for this parameter, Vˆ (S 2 ), under the normal, exponential, Bernoulli, and Poisson distributions and end the thesis with simulations demonstrating the distributions of these estimators.

Analysis Of The Truncation Error And Barrier-Function Technique For A Bakhvalov-Type Mesh, Thái Ahn Nhan, Relja Vulanović

Mathematics and Computer Science

We use a barrier-function technique to prove the parameter-uniform convergence for singularly perturbed convection-diffusion problems discretized on a Bakhvalov-type mesh. This is the first proof of this kind in the research literature, the barrier-function approach having only been applied so far to Shishkin-type meshes.

L-Series And Feynman Integrals, David Broadhurst, David P. Roberts Jan 2019

L-Series And Feynman Integrals, David Broadhurst, David P. Roberts

Mathematics Publications

Integrals from Feynman diagrams with massive particles soon outgrow polylogarithms. We consider the simplest situation in which this occurs, namely for diagrams with two vertices in two space-time dimensions, with scalar particles of unit mass. These comprise vacuum diagrams, on-shell sunrise diagrams and diagrams obtained from the latter by cutting internal lines. In all these cases, the Feynman integral is a moment of n = a + b Bessel functions, of the form M(a,b,c) := ∫ ∞0 1a0(t)Kb0(t)tcdt. The corresponding …

Graceful Labeling Of Triangular Extension Of Complete Bipartite Graph, Sarbari Mitra, Soumya Bhoumik Jan 2019

Graceful Labeling Of Triangular Extension Of Complete Bipartite Graph, Sarbari Mitra, Soumya Bhoumik

Mathematics Faculty Publications

For positive integers m, n, K m,n represents the complete bipartite graph. We name the graph G = K m,n ⊙ K2 as triangular extension of complete bipartite graph K m,n , since there is a triangle hanging from every vertex of K m,n . In this paper we show that G is graceful when m = n = 2ℓ, for any integer ℓ.

Algebraic Entropies, Hopficity And Co-Hopficity Of Direct Sums Of Abelian Groups, Brendan Goldsmith, Katao Kong Jan 2019

Algebraic Entropies, Hopficity And Co-Hopficity Of Direct Sums Of Abelian Groups, Brendan Goldsmith, Katao Kong

Articles

Necessary and sufficient conditions to ensure that the direct sum of two Abelian groups with zero entropy is again of zero entropy are still unknown; interestingly the same problem is also unresolved for direct sums of Hopfian and co-Hopfian groups. We obtain sufficient conditions in some situations by placing restrictions on the homomorphisms between the groups. There are clear similarities between the various cases but there is not a simple duality involved.

Bochner-Kähler And Bach Flat Manifolds, Amalendu Ghosh, Ramesh Sharma

Mathematics Faculty Publications

We have classified Bochner-Kähler manifolds of real dimension > 4, which are also Bach flat. In the 4-dimensional case, we have shown that, if the scalar curvature is harmonic, then it is constant. Finally, we show that the gradient of scalar curvature of any Bochner-Kähler manifold is an infinitesimal harmonic transformation, and if it is conformal then the scalar curvature is constant.
